Patch 1.21 bugs & problems.

Had a strange occurance last game. My workers were gunned down in heaps by my own troops as they tried (I presume) to pass through my cities. A lot of the workers were captured slave workers so I'm wondering if the AI forgets sometimes that they are no longer the enemy?

It did look kinda cool though to see huge mechas with chain cannons mercilessly mowing the defenseless workers down one after another and they were probably saying to them, "Here's just reminding you who's boss" or "Work harder you lazy swine!"

This happened twice on a game my son was playing, though I only saw it myself the second time it happened to him. I thought it was possibly due to the fact he started with 1.17f and continued with 1.21f. If you check the city that did the killing, you will see the unit that did the killing was not of your civilization. He was playing as Rome, and after his workers were killed (it was strange to see workers dying), he right-clicked the city and it showed a Roman Mech Infintry and an AMERICAN Modern Armor.

Unfortunately, he reloaded before I thought to tell him to save it, and it did not repeat.

Great, waiting to play again, and I get this crap...

I have the same problem as you venger, I installed the 1.21 patch to my 1.16 version and it asks me every time the CD even if it's in the driver. I thought it was because I have the FRENCH VERSION OF CIV3. What do u think guyz?

seems to happen randomly, but from the main map, pressing F3 to go to military advisors screen dumps me to the desktop.

am running WinXP with a Pentium IV 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, SoundBlaster 64

Mine crashed once on F3. I have Win98, Pentium4, 667Mhz.

And huge maps run fine with minimal slowdown! :) (atleast for the first 20 turns).

Here are some bugs I found when testing new units:
The ranged attack animation flag does not work.
If you fortify a air unit on water it disappears

Not a bug but it would help:
Can the Unit proprieties list box be changed to simple select or check boxes

These have always been there but I did not care much about them:
Graph bugs:
After changing eras and clicking on "what is the big picture" if you change graphs and then click close it changes back to the first graph instead of closing.
The graph on the replay screen is the wrong one.

Hi, I really need some help here. Can someone please tell me if this problem is common. I have never had the msg where the people want to renovate my palace even though i am in the 1800s now. I have to check periodically to see if i can add structure to my palace. I think i had this problem since 1.17 i am using 1.21 now.

I posted this in a separate thread, and will tack it on here too:

So my thoughts turned to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri ("SMAC" to its friends), and the number of bugs still lingering in the game. The worst of which was known as the "Stockpile Energy" bug (SMAC's equivalent of Civ 3's "Wealth"), and to my horror I realized it, or rather its converse, probably still exists in Civ 3. I ran downstairs to test, and it's confirmed in 1.21f.

Here's the bug: Set a city to Wealth. Commerce happens at the BEGINNING of upkeep each turn, before food/ shields are processed in any city. So at the first Zoom To City chance you get, scroll ahead in the city list (by pressing right-arrow) and change a Wealth city to something else. Voila - you got credit for BOTH the money from Wealth and the shields for that turn. To make it even worse, when you switch off Wealth, you seem to get the Wealth income as shields in the box for free as well!

If the city was producing 80 shields, you'd get 20 gold income, 20 shields in the box when you switched off Wealth (I think), and then it would produce the 80, all on the same turn. This obviously needs to get patched...

I think I noticed something like that wealth bug...

I've also found another one! (big surprise there. :))

When you zoom into a city screen, open the unit/improvement menu (it seems to happen when there's a lot to build) - I was holding the shift key the whole time - and with it open, click on a unit in garrison. The game will lock up.

I had a worker, knight and musketman in my garrison, and I clicked on the worker (I might have right-clicked it). I've been able to recreate this bug, too.

I don't know whether this has already been mentioned (tried searching with various keywords, didn't find), but here goes:

Version: 1.21f

Bug description: The AI does not check whether a city location can actually support a city before founding one.

Background:

Normally this is not an issue as the city square always produces at least two food which is enough for one citizen, so as per standard rules there is no need for a check.

However, last weekend I was building my scenario "Empires of Sand", which is based on the core idea of there being one huge desert with scattered oases and one big navigable river (e.g. like Egypt and the Nile). The premise is that civilizations are supposed to fight for the fertile special locations and leave the desert an uninhabited hostile no-man's land. To force this I reduced the desert food output to zero. However, the AI:s didn't comply to my wishes . Instead they started building huge numbers of size1 cities in the desert which was possible because of the 2 food citysquare production.

To counter this I raised the food consumption per citizen to 3 modifying the fertile tile (grassland, plains, etc.) food output accordingly and everything seemed working fine. No cities in the desert except where they bordered more fertile tiles, which was ok.

But, but... when I later reviewed the history record I noticed that all of the AI civs kept trying to found cities in the desert. All game long and continously. Every desert city starved to death and disappeared at the same turn it was built, but the AI kept on trying wasting settlers and productions.

Shouldn't there be an AI check whether a location can support a city?

Hi friedmad:
I have a similar setup by HP Pavilion. After putting in the new patch 1.21 f I frequently get the F3 crash. No one has comeup with an answer though. Firaxis where are you???

and CRAIDER, my palace does not build either. I check F9 once in a while and it lets me build parts.:egypt:

Ozymandius I want my ppl to adore me.....checking like that just doesnt have the same effect...

craider
I agree with you totally. It is nice to know my subjects agree with my Borg philosopy. I am at democracy in 910 AD and my palace building has yet to start. I want my mausoleum complete before I die at the ripe old age of 6,000 .:egypt:

Didn't have any problems with the game for a long time. Now in my most recent game, three of the leaders don't show up on the foreign advisor screen; when I take over a city, if there are resisters, my military advisor shows me this over a view of my own capital; the palace never showed up and it is the 1900s and I think I have done a good job.

Do I need to reinstall the game? Will these troubles plague me ever more? Can't we get decent programs for our dollars?

Ozymandius I was wondering how many improvements have u had all this while? All this while my games have never exceeded 4-5 improvements to the palace. Wonder has anybody completely finished the palace in Civ3. I remember doing that a few times in Civ1 or 2. Dont like the idea of receiving foreign dignitaries in that shabby looking palace. Well my empire may be great but look what they have for a palace

There has to be a bug in the palace building screen. I have had palaces in the past that were, as far as I could guess, totally complete. I was a builder then with every improvement in my capital city except courthouses. Lately, my work crew must be off fighting or wenching because there is no progress.

Now I am more successful than ever in building an empire but the architect, let alone the builders, have yet to show up for work. I have asked as a thread about this palace bug but no one is really concerned. I also like the feedback that I am doing a good job as empire builder.:king:
