I can't get my 1.0 saved games to work. On one save game I'm playing a completely different civ whihc freezes the game since it's wait for me to hit enter with the civ I was playing (Rome). Another one freezes my whole pc.

It appears (at least to me) that most are taking this quite lightheartedly.

I think you underestimate the "fanaticism" of the civ fanatics forums.

Early in Civ 4's development a website (I forget which) posted a business presentation that someone (perhaps Soren or even Sid) gave where he was talking about the Civ 4 franchise as a whole. In it, under "pro's" described the Civilization franchise as possessing a "rabid fanbase."

I think tonight is case in point for how "hardcore" the core of the civ fanbase can be!

You mean there really is a problem with the patch? Besides the one error i mentioned earlier in this thread (which could have been caused by anything including the brand new nvidia drivers), I've been playing all night without any issues. Actually, my units are talking now (i think thats what they are doing cuz only the english speakings civs speak english) and i never even realized they didn't before.

edit: no, i didnt get an error while installing. no, i didn't install xfire. yes, worldbuilder works perfectly (including the fixes to it).

Against my better judgement, I installed the patch.

The World Builder works fine : in fact, better than before. I can see more information on the other civs, earlier than before.

But I lost the notifications when a tech is discovered : no more pop-ups with Leonard Nimoy. Other informational pop-ups work fine.

Oh, well : if it's the only problem, I can live with it.

did you get any error instaling it?
at the end of the process, i get a message:

"Error1706. No valid source could be found for product Sid Meier's civilizaion 4. The windows installer cannot continue."

I haven't experienced any issues yet. I wouldn't know if Worldbuilder was working or not since I never use it. As for goody huts, I edit them to not produce free techs anyways so the patch is just fine for me (so far).

Oh really? It doesn't download? Firaxis built in a system where preference is ranked based on how many times you click the "update" button. After about 1,000 clicks you should be near the top of the cue and it should download for you.

Come on guys .. there ain't any official notification from the Official Website that the patch is available to download. And most of the guys actually downloaded the patch because the first guy posted the how to in this thread. They made a mistake of "releasing" a premature patch, but they haven't spread the word until the first guy noticed the offering and spread the word (which made it unofficial). So, please don't say Firaxis screwed up big time. It is not official.

The file is 25 megs. If anyone is willing to direct me to someplace that can share it then i can work on putting it up. I'm on cable and have a slow upstream though, about 20k-30k usually (~192kbps up). Could even possibly make it into a torrent.
Disclaimer: Many people ARE having issues with this patch.

Well it can't get any worse than not being able to start the game, so I will try any patch I have a 100 MBit dedicated connection so if I get the honor to mirror the patch send me an e-mail to c.sackl@hydroconsult.net and use Civ IV as topic and write more than one sentence in the e-mail or the spam filter will block you
