Patch this --immediately!

uh...you guys are being unfair. they release an extensive xpac that as far as we know only has two serious problems so far (espionage bug on warlords and corporation inflation) despite the fact that they added NUMEROUS new features.

i'd say the xpac is a resounding success and they WILL patch the game just like they did with warlords fixing up some things they missed.

they're only human and have limited testers whereas when the game is released MILLIONS of people are playing (and thus testing) it. we are bound to find things they missed, but overall i'd say the game is very smooth.

Thank you and I agree :goodjob:

The game is 100% playable if you chose the right settings. Dont be drama queens. Yes, its mildly annoying that you will probably have to go a week and a half playing at normal speed only, but I'm sure that you can live with it.

Just set it to normal in the time being, and I'm sure that they will fix it so you can play at whatever speed you wish shortly.

A bug is only show stopping if it makes the game unplayable at standard settings. The game is playable at standard settings, although some nonstandard settings are obviously not perfect. You can suck it up for a week.

Has nothing to do with being a fanboy. You are bringing up an overly hyped problem with the game that is easily modifiable for the time being. It has already been brought up in the Bugs Forum and explained much more eloquently than here.

You KNOW it will get patched, Epic speed IS playable and it is only a relatively short period of time before the game is patched.

Is there a patch for the leaders' animation? I am having the same problem that I had with Warlords whe I first got it... most of the animated figures don't show up properly. Thanks

I doubt millions of people bought this in the first week it came out buddy, and maybe your forgetting that people pay an avarage of 30 bucks or more for this game, they would appriciate it if it was playable

Ah, because the entire game is completely unplayable because the espionage missions are broken on Marathon speed. Yeesh.

oh no not 30 dollars....please...

Despite this being a so-called "confirmed" bug, I really don't see what's so bad about it. In general, all of my cities that have been hit with that spy mission drop about 1-2 population levels. That's it. I've done it to enemy cities, and that's pretty typical for them too. I suppose if they hit a city that was already suffering from unhealthiness and/or had almost no surplus food it would be more dramatic, but even then, recovering from it isn't that hard.

It certainly doesn't make the game unplayable.

Why do people come in and tell Marathon players to play at normal speed?

This really pisses me off. Why, after two years of playing at marathon level with vanilla & Warlords, should you have to play the game in a way that will be less enjoyable for myself and that person so it works ok, just because Firaxis stuffed it up?

Edit: I have had games where the poisoning was a joke, my last game I am in 1908 and its happened once. Although I still stand with the above comment.

This forum is more and more CivWhiners now... Come on, it takes 3 minutes to mod the XML file to remove the marathon poison / unhapiness bug.

And don't make us cry with your '30 dollars', the game is worth ten times this sum as it is.

I finally got a copy of BtS, and sure enough, the Espionage bug/<snip> reared their heads immediately. I quit the game in disgust.

(...)

Goddamn. Unbelievable.

Oh god, I got a copy of BtS and there was something I didn't like somewhere in the zillion features !! I quitted the game and stopped eating during 2 days !! I gonna die if you don't patch soon, so hurry up ! I could mod the XML file (it would take 3 minutes), I could wait for the patch and play normal settings until then, but no I prefer crying !!!

Patch it or I'll cry ! I swear I'll cry and call my mother !

Unbelievable, actually.

I applaud Firaxis and the Civilization teams for this fine work. I waited for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for many years and now I have waited for them to patch the game for months. For me it's unplayable 'cause its totally unoptimized. I have played every single Civ release and it never fails. If there is a bug they fix it quickly or we can fix it ourselves for time being. This bug is the kind we can quickfix it ourselves and wait for firaxis to release a patch that will quite undoubtely balance other things too as they get more feedback. Relax guys =) If you have to play marathon, fix it yourself. There are plenty of helpers here for that.

oh no not 30 dollars....please...

Best. Quote. Ever.

:D

And yeh, it's a bad bug, though I didnt know it was a bug and thought Spies were seriously overpowered. Makes me feel like resetting my game now cause I've totally annihalated Hannibal with that mission alone....

I'm not sure how you would change it. 8  for 8 turns in other settings seems fine as it wont completely destroy your city and 8 turns isn't usually long enough for the same spy to get back there and repeat the mission. But 8  for 24 turns would give the same spy plenty of time to just keep going to the same city and repeating the mission solely. Tough call.

And I have to say, I find it pretty amusing that anyone defending Firaxis are labelled as fanbois, but does no one see the OPs "I quit the game in disgust." as a SLIGHT overeaction? :D I can just see him now sat there, face screwed up and totally appauled.

/dramaqueen.

The two issues are game-breaking, not small annoyances.

I'd insult you back but it appears that the moderators are very arbitrary and frankly partial in how they run things here, so I will desist.

Moderator Action: Correct and thank you.

I would like to add that the Next War epic game is screwed up as well. For example, the Apostolic Palace is missing(!!) and music, sounds, civs and new graphics is missing or screwed up. I mean, if they had just tested it ONCE they would have noticed these bugs. Is that too much to ask really??

Somebody has made a temporary unofficial patch to solve the issues in next war, you can find it in another thread on this forum.

They probably changed a few things until the last minute, that would explain some of the bugs went unnoticed. I'm pretty confident a first patch will be out soon. Meanwhile, I have much fun with the game in its current state.

I just want to say, I am so very glad this is being seen as a bug. I play Marathon all the time, and I was finding the 24 turn 24 pollution just way too much to bear. I tried stepping down to Noble and was seriously considering stepping down even further in difficulty to cope with it. But changing the difficulty makes the game less fun in other ways. So I am really pleased we can tweak a value to reduce the effect. Thanks everyone. :)

Of course it IS a bug, the power shouldn't scale with speed it would make no sense. 8 faces / unhealthiness (normal speed) is probably the good value considering the mission is cheap. Only the duration (8 / 16 / 24 turns) should scale with game speed. It's clearly a bug.

But 8 for 24 turns would give the same spy plenty of time to just keep going to the same city and repeating the mission solely. Tough call.

You have to build the points back up in addition to getting your spy back in place. And, I assume it costs more EPs to do on Marathon...

No, it makes perfect sense. On Marathon, the amount of food needed to move up a level is increased. Therefore, using the same unhealthiness as Normal has a much lower impact on a city.

point: dont offer a feature in settings that is broken or unbalanced from day 1. to say that one shouldnyt play certain settings that are offered because they are broken means they should be fixed before being offered
