Patched communism is really corrupt!

Out of habit, when neighbors persisted in war against my democracy, I switched to communism. What a disaster! Of 840 income, 416 was lost to waste, including 50% in my capital. I switched to monarchy and only 279 of 963 was lost.

I noticed that all the AI governments were communist; so late-game monarchy may now provide a competitive advantage.

Before capturing a few cities the waste under communism was only 256 of 687, so waste actually increased faster than income.

I've experienced the same things...

When I go to war, I usually need money to hurry troops and cultural improvements in captured cities. I don't need advances; I've usually built up my army before I attack (and this is probably almost always the case with everyone else). So I raise my luxuries pretty high and set my research to 0%.

When I do this, all of my cities are in WLKTD, lowering corruption and reducing the chance that captured cities will revert back to their original oppressors .

P.S. Does anyone else do the same? Or am I alone in lowering research to 0% during war?

Actually I keep research at 0% always on emperor/deity levels. It's mauch easier to buy techs from AI civs. When I have no reasearch, I don't have to build libraries/universities, so I save a lot of money.

When I have +10000 gold, it's easy to buy techs, friends and luxuries.

Sometimes on modern age I put research at 100%, if I need to get space ship techs fast. I lose 400-600 gold /turn, but I doesn't really matter in that point.

BTW. I won my first win on deity level. Large archipelago map and 12 civs. So this really works

I also often keep my research at 0% with one scientist so that I get an advance every 40 turns. But if I am ahead in tech and can't end one of these stupid wars where all that happens is that the AI ships bombard my coastal railroads while my workers rebuild them, then I need to do some research. Republic and Democracy are out because of war weariness. Communism is now out because of waste. That leaves Monarchy, the one government I have never seen a use for.
