PBEM game "Praetorian"

 I guess it's my turn to be worried about opening the save! :scared:

I won't get to play till late tonight, I'm afraid (12-13 hours from this post)

Little do you know that second army was but a diversion... yes, a devious little plan. I'm still figuring out the second part of the plan... but it will blow your mind!

And you're lucky, I mean with that cold climate those corpses will keep for at least a good 6 months. It's a good place for a massacre. The trees should shade the bodies from the heat of the sun, too, which will make them last even longer.

Nice move Peter... but the W_Empire cannot be stopped! We roll on like a massive white wave sweeping away all that tries to stand in our way! :ar15:

Except for that Rambo Infantry of yours... it had slightly less that 2% odds of defeating my Modern Armor, and somehow managed to pull it off :wow:

...

Of course, I promptly ordered in 6 more divisions of Modern Armor and Mech Infantry to crush the vile upstarts, and then I had their bones ground into dust... which I ordered scattered to the four winds :cowboy: ;)

The journal of General Jao

News reports out of Greece of the destruction of the Chinese Second Army have been greatly exaggerated. After spending some months with the First Army in its march on Mill, I have transferred to our second front, which is making far less headway and in need of proper organization. I am temporarily replacing LTG Wang, and hoping I can find a more suitable permanent replacement for when I leave.

The Second Army suffered no direct attacks, despite Greek propaganda. We have suffered some casualties from a major bombing run carried out over the summer, but our air defense network was, as always, capable and severely reduced the Greek fleet. I am convinced the Greek air force is in tatters at this point, having lost an entire division at the Battle of Incense, and having before and since suffered heavy casualties to advanced Chinese jets.

At any rate, it will take some time to get this army fully operational and prepared for the final assault on the Wastes, although preliminary bombing runs have already commenced.

The First Army is faring much better from what I've heard. I transferred after my tenth month of driving through the desert with nothing but a burnt face and perpetually sore eyes to show for it. Constant breakdowns due to the sand and poor terrain have slowed our advance, which made those months all the more frustrating. There has been no fighting for some time now, the Greeks apparently are letting our forces run freely through their eastern territory. I think they must be saving their forces for the defense of Athens. I learned that recently the First Army finally crossed the Great Calcuttan Desert, and has now moved into the western badlands. The rough terrain will slow their progress, and I will have some time before I must return for the taking of Mill. They should, at least, be safe in the hills for now.

The truly unfortunate news has been the loss of a large part of the Conquered Territories to Greek attacks. The entire city of Edmonton has been burned to the ground, no doubt in retaliation for the loss of the Riches. I have heard that the 1st Brigade of the air cav has retaliated yet again for this, destroying the remnants of the east bank suburbs of the Riches. Montreal was also lost, but then regained by the W Empire. High Command is mostly uninterested in the fate of the Territories, though, and for now has directed little resources to improving our defenses there, save some upgrades for troops holding out in the north.

Parts of the Greek navy have been seen in our eastern territorial waters, and have destroyed our fishing fleet in the Sea of China. The economic impact has been felt as far away as Xian. In response, HICOM has decided to create a naval department to deal with the threat and preserve the integrity of Chinese waters. I suspect the Greeks will come to regret their decision in due time.

I apologize for the delay :worship:

When I boasted that the Year of Blood had started, I was referring to Greek blood, not Chinese nor English

How long until that Engine is done, G_W? ;)

The Chinese forces have been subject to a horrid massacre on the banks of the mighty St. Lawrence River. For the first time ever, Chinese battalions have been completely lost in battle. Yes, some analysts have already commented that the only strictly Chinese battalion lost was an artillery battalion that foolishly attempted to rush a Greek tank unit, and the other battalion was technically a transfer from the W Empire. But beyond that it was a never-ending slaughter, as thousands upon thousands of scantily clad men ran into battle against the advanced Greek tanks, only to be pulverized by their metal rain. But in the end, the Greeks could not counter such bravery - perhaps even insanity - and were felled by a final Chinese bolt. The day, in the end, was ours, but at what cost? It will take generations to refill the gaps left in our ancient battle reenactment societies.

You mean to tell me you don't know?
I could have sworn you had some... intelligence gathering individuals... in my lands :mischief:

If you're worried about your invitation to the launch... don't be concerned! This little skirmish isn't personal... you're still on the honored guest list :D

.. oh yeah... and a super-belated GPS to DNK  ;)

:bump: Don't forget you've got the save Peter! :)

I know you're busy - so no big pressure!

:salute:

Thanks, G_W :)

I've started playing, but then the computer here at home crashed :(

I had saved two attacks before the crash, so I will resume playing from that point on my work computer which, tho' slower, is at least less crashy :crazyeye:

I really think I can finish playing within 18 hours. Let's see how accurate that prediction is ;)

Rumors persist that high level informal peace talks have started between Greece and the W Empire. Acting as mediators, representatives from Huayna Capac's administration have been seen shuttling between the warring parties, near the front lines outside of Montreal. When contacted for comment on this article, a member of Grimes' Foreign Department, refusing attribution due to the sensitive nature of the talks, had this to say:

"Our analysis of their [The W Empire] economy shows that they are spending more on 'butter' than on 'guns'. Riots are flaring up in several cities, forcing the General_W regime to hand out cash every week - an expensive way to handle unrest, no doubt. It is clearly having an effect on other sectors, as they are still struggling to complete research on [REDACTED] 2. Compounded with the effects of reduced trading options, and forced to import sub-quality chinese imitation 'food' - which provides less than half the nutrients of an equal weight of Greek foodstuffs - it is clear that the W Empire has reached the limits of the whipping it can take from us Greeks."

When asked if Peace was imminent, the official refused to speculate, saying only "The ball is in their court."

:rotfl:

Time to start the witch-hunts in my cabinet!
Someone has been hiding things from their Emperor! :nono:

(Hopefully I'll get to play tonight... within 7 hours of this post)

1918 – GPS to DNK

The stunning success of the Greek offensive has dominated headlines across the Empire.
The loss of multiple Modern Armor and Mechanized infantry divisions has rattled the culture of invulnerability that had set in among the upper echelons of Imperial Military leadership.

The W Emperor himself, has personally appointed a new roster of military commanders to takeover daily operations in the Southern Front where things went so terribly awry.

High on the agenda for the new commanders is a series of retaliatory strikes against Greek infrastructure and military support lines. While Imperial policy remains morally opposed to the bombing of civilians in major cities or countryside towns, the gloves have come off regarding the fields that produce food for the greek butchers.

Naval commanders report that while a few rogue Greek ships continue to give the Imperial Navy a merry chase, great progress has been made in restoring order to the high seas.

Finally – our glorious Emperor has announced a new cultural push across the W_ Empire to build excitement for the “Empire: Spanning this World, and Beyond” project which is reportedly nearing some kind of grand unveiling in the near future…

I'll play this tomorrow, I'm just too tired/headachey right now to deal with it. Allergies are killing me today (probably because of a massive mold outbreak in my room for the past few days). And by tomorrow, I mean probably late tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, I just can't focus so well right now.

The Empire turns its eyes from the dust and warfare of earth - and looks instead to the Heavens. The silence of anticipation settles across the whole of the land...

:bump: don't lose track of the save amidst all your Labor-day Fun & Frivolity, DNK! ;)

Well, there was an odd little message at the bottom of my screen when I ended my turn...

Nothing significant to report, the Chinese military was stopped dead for all its soldiers stared in wonder at the launch of the W spaceship. Macau was founded over the ashes of the Riches, the midway point on the Great Railroad between Athenjing and Beijing. We're still working on connecting the two cities, though ;)

The 4/4 1st Air Cav had to miss it, unfortunately. The only regular army unit lost in Chinese history, and on the last turn! But they died to protect their brothers in arms... from work groups.
