pbem - straight up, no gimics, minimal restrictions

Interesting - the save which arrived via corresponding e-mail address is the correct one !

Strange ... played my turn and pass it further. Really nice pace of game here. ;)

2800 BC - First War initiated by Tachymoron of Greece. 90% odd; won battle. Loosy barbarian warrior roamed too close to the holy greek lands.
Attitude: Untreatable unless some tribute.

I met you two turns ago and now you're going to war with me over a scouting unit, with no warning? And now you want tribute? Please.

Isn't MP games played like that? Technically, it's my first human-human war (along the other game where I left the player alive as killing it would kill the fun)...I thought diplomacy is non-existent in MP. Is that right or was I wrong?

Diplomacy is possible in pbem - some people do it more and some less.

I play pbem because I am too busy to play normal Civ (haven't played against the computer since Civ2 ) and the short timeslice turns are the only way I can trick myself into thinking I have time.

But even I normally negotiate a little.

Some players do get super aggressive and go for quick kills.

OTOH some players have been around a long time and build up a sense of the usual spectrum of styles of how people play this. So if you repeatedly play with the same group of people and always do an ancient era rush, eventually the others might catch on, and adjust their play style accordingly.

On the basis of one game, no one else really knows if this is how you generally play it, or if you happened to choose this one to role play a barbarian.

But that's ok too. I normally build, but then 10 or so games ago I performed an instant archer rush in an advanced start, and killed off the host within the first millennium or so.... and learnt the usual lesson after wiping out the next tribe. The other guy on the continent was quietly building their economy and tech, and wiped me out with knights.

So, in summary most people are normally too cool to kill scouts, and seeing someone else do it, it just ticks a box.

What is the Marine's unofficial mantra ... "Improvise, Adapt and Overcome"

That said ... I have found that pbem styles are usually consistent over games and you build up an awareness of how people play. Also, each game does have different requirements .. get a lousy starting position for a capital and you have to go to war to have a long term chance. End up on an island by yourself ... you turn into a builder.

Finally - I actually try and keep my scouts away from people that I haven't played pbem games with before ... on the thinking that I don't know what this person will do.

Heh, I clearly learned my lesson there.

As for Tachymoron of Greece, this wanton act of aggression will not be met kindly. England will remember this in the years to come.

With whom?

With whom?
With me. I am in two games with Ioan and I have observed that he players the spoiler (ie war with A so that I can complete the 'fill in wonder here' or 'war to disconnect resource for zero gain for me') game.

It is impossible to call this a border war as our capitals (and we each only have 1 city each) are 13 tiles apart. That isn't a border. My bet is that there are no other incoming units ... so it isn't a choke either. Sure - you cut access to my gold mine and cost me some worker cycles. Hopefully the map scouting information that you lost hurts you more than that.

Well, well, a gold mine. I understand the fears Mîtiu Ioan might have. Although he seems someone quite untrustworthy.

Do anyone has its second city like me?

We will see ( I agree that terminology wasn't the proper one ) - but as long as you prove to be a superior player I felt necessary to cut you that research-boost ... even if only temporary ...

Not sure that this will impact the game progress but I'll be out from my laptop ( visiting my grand-mother :) ) until Sunday morning my time.

Best regards and sorry for any ( possible ) delay !

That's annoying :-/

I'll attach the turn again when I get home a little later tonight.
