Greekguy, Please inform your Galley that the Greek shores can be found to the North of it's current location. It can follow my dromons if these instructions are not clear enough. :D

@Spiffy: Don't worry, real diplo would go on by email. For instance, if I were to negotiate peace with Scratcher, that would occur via email and not this thread.

@Scratcher: My Greek sailors will have no problems sailing around your coast and discovering more stacks of MDIs, thank you very much. :p

@all: I'll be in Boston from Thursday - Saturday, and will be w/o access to civ during that time, so I won't be able to play the save.

@ classical_hero: look, the map is made decently, its not boring and its pretty creative. however, the map does not equally distribute the bonuses between teh players to make it competitive. at this point I don't see myself even having the possibility of winning, and its mostly due to my position on the map.

the biggest problem is the inequitable food allotment. I have 1 cow, 1 wheat, and about a dozen grasslands near my start. my continental opponent has TWO rivers (I have NONE), at least 2 dozen grasslands near his start and better overall terrain placement. Not only that, but there are NO flood plains on my continent, while the opposing continent has FPs in the starting radius!! Basically, with the way the map is designed, the player who gets the start I got doesn't have a fair chance of winning (and the other player on my continent probably won't win either, as teh food disadvantage is almost impossible to overcome).

After reexamining my situation in this game and in RL, I don't feel I should be spending my valuable time on a game that I think I cannot win. So, with that in mind, I'm going to be resigning my position in this game. I'll post in the replacement players thread and get the new person set up, but I'm not going to play any more saves.

Sorry for the effect this has on the other people involved in this game (Semental, Scratcher, and Spiffy), but its not fair to myself or you guys for me to play if my heart isn't really in it.

@Scratcher: Though your joke still has no basis in the reality of the game, I have to respect your commitment to the joke. :goodjob:

@ Greekguy, I wasn't joking, your Navy is hopelessly lost. :D

I am sorry to hear, that you want to retire from the game.
Not everyone can be the winner and I have found it fun to play this game with you. I would hope that you would reconsider have have some good natured banter with me while I rape and pillage your lands and sink your ships. ;)

On a side note. I will be changing jobs in the new year, which will involve a move to a new continent. So I am unsure if or when I will be able to play during this period. I really hope I do not have to retire from the game.

I know not everyone can win a game, in fact that's what makes games so fun to me: there is a winner. But in this particular game, I feel the way the starting positions were made, there wasn't ever any real chance of my winning. And for me that makes a huge difference.

Hopefully someone will answer the replacement ad soon and this game will start up again for you guys. :)

What do you guys think of my Map so far?

I think it is a good map for a tiny continents game. I have yet to venture far onto the other continent, but the continent I am on is well designed. I like having somewhat even resources even though they are not perfectly spaced (I have unique furs and Byz has unique gems, while we share incense, but it was closer to me, while two horses were closer to Byz but iron was near both of us). It led to some interesting settler tactics on my part.

As for the food that greekguy mentioned, I would rather have had a grassland cow and a grassland wheat (like the Byz had) instead of a FP wheat and a forest game. However, I think it was another good move to balance things, while making them different.

But Spiffy, your food bonus was in the radius of your capital. You were able to build a granery and have a settler factory from the get go. I had to wait for my first settler before building a granery and settler factory in my second city. The benefit to you is clearly shown by the scores. Once my factory was up and running I was able to match you for expansion, but before that time you had a better start.

I also think the map was pretty even. I do not have total picture of the other continent as some areas have not been explored so I can not comment. But both Spiffy and myself made very strong starts and took full advantage of the land available.

I´m interested in playing as replacement.
I´m average player with good GPSing times.

@Greekguy - Thks for the mail and save!

It seems i´m at war with Byzantines, i´v sent you a proposal for peace, it´s an indication that we are willing to pay for a fixed number of peace turns, of course you can set the price and i´ll consider it.

My land is a bit crappy and i´m last in score, still not all is lost (i hope) afterall i´m playing the greeks, they tend to resist greater number with fewer :D

Game save received, and will be played later today. I have sent an email to all players.

@Hasdrubal, The Byzantines have not made any Declaration of War to the Greeks (not recently anyway ;) ). As far as I am aware there exists a fragile peace which is jeopardised by the continuous presence of your galley bobbing around in the Byzantine waters discharging buckets of Greek filth near our pristine shores. :D

The Byzantine Empire makes a formal Declaration of War on the Northern Barbarians, who call themselves Vikings. Troops are landed next to the Viking Capital Trondheim, and some Dromon bombardment was unleashed.
Bombardment 1 - 4/4HP Spearman reduced to 2/4HP
Bombardment 2 - Miss
Bombardment 3 - 3/3HP Swordsman reduced to 2/3HP
Bombardment 4 - 2/4HP Spearman redlined (1/4HP)
Bombardment 5 - 2/3HP Swordsman redlined (1/3HP)
Bombardment 6 - 1 Citizen killed.

To the East of the Viking territory an Elite MDI (reduced to 4/5HP) kills an Elite Warrior who was fortified on a hill protecting a source of iron. The name of the nearby Viking city escaped the Byzantine attacker as he was preoccupied removing matted hair from his weapon. However, he promises to keep a better log in the future.
