pbemtracker alert

So, let's create a committee to elaborate a new pbem tracker? Are there someone with IT knowledge, willing to help us on that work?

The noblest thing would be for methinkso to at least yield administration to another person, in the same way he got his position from the previous owner.

Would be the easiest option IMO. The Tracker does it's job well enough if we can get the backend working again that is.

I should mention this.
Everyone should be very careful if they use pbemtracker.com
I found out that the pbemtracker database of accounts had been hacked and a list account details was posted on siph0n.in, a hacker/exploit site. This included mine which had email address, username and password. Unfortunately, (because I'm dumb) I had used the same password on other sites and my accounts got hacked on several of them, causing me a lot of grief. pbemtracker literally has no security on it. I tried contacting them at admin@pbemtracker.com, but the email bounced back, saying the inbox was full. So be careful what password you use there.

If you want the actual details of what I found out, I probably won't post them on the public forum. PM me.

We could do that ... but the security issue is a concern. The other option is the Realms Beyond gmail based tracker.

realms beyond worked out a pbem turn tracker using gmail. Details are http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=4632

I want to investigate the 'reporting' angle a little bit (ie how hard is it to host the php code) but the setting up the gmail accounts is pretty straight forward ... i have done it for 'Crowd' and 'GiveMe18'.

Subscribe to sites, in general, ever is a risk. I have an e-mail account only for games. I don't use my personal or professional e-mails with sites as pbem tracker, and for each site I use a different password. I know with this posture I am not completely protected, but this procedure minimises the risks. This is the only think that I can do!

Thank you for your precious information, Jonius!

I do something similar ... use a separate gmail account for all contacts ... all household bills, websites that I buy stuff from, people who want to email me (eg insurance agents), etc, etc. It gets about 70 emails per day that I hardly ever read ... but I have a complete history.

I have also started to modify my first name with information about the web site (eg John-hd for 'Home Depot' ... not my real name :)). In this way, if someone else emails me and calls me 'John-hd' I know where they got my email address from. I recently caught a pet health care site that leaked my email address ... I emailed them with a copy of their privacy statement.

Ruff_hi, do you have knowledges to do that?

Ruff_hi, do you have knowledges to do that?

Knowledge to do which part? Yes to setting up the gmail account. No to the php side of things. I haven't done much (or any) investigations as of yet ... I have given it very low priority so it might take a while to come to the top of the queue.

Given my current tenuous employment situation, I will attempt to build something like this as a training ploy for some technical interviews.

If anyone knows how to do this, or has ideas, but lacks time, I would be willing to do the grunt work, in exchange for the eventual website development experience, and something to point to for interviews.

Naturally this would for me be notionally lower priority than actually preparing for interviews, (unless the work itself would constitute revision/learning of direct relevance)

that link was a link to a save. But the games I usually track are there when I logged in. Not that we are using this version ... All of my games have swapped over to the gmail version.

It is not working for me!

If you can download the file -- than it works. You don't have to open someone else's random file. Before tracker refused to upload real files and you would download nothing.

I suggest everyone to try using tracker again!

What's going on with the tracker I've got an turn via it this weekend. Did someone fix it?

Yes, it got fixed!

Not completely fixed I fear, just got an email from the tracker, though without attachment, the included link did also not work and unfortunately neither did trying to access the save directly through the tracker....

Maybe it was never fully broken, just unstable (and could work once in a while)?

I will give it a try or two, but it seems that the tracker is (to say the least) not very reliable...

I just tried -- and tracker does not allow to access the file I have uploaded :wallbash:

Do we know who fixed the tracker? Or has someone just uploaded a file on a whim and it got through?
