Peaceful AI Civs

My wife does not like the war part of Civ V, so when we're playing a game, I try to put in AIs that are likely to play a peaceful game. So far we've been having a lot of luck with Gandhi and Harun. Maria Theressa seems to be fairly peaceful, but she expands a lot. I know there's a chart that lists all of the leaders' traits, but I'm not sure I understand how to read it. Going from that chart, I put in Hiawatha, but he seemed very aggressive to me.

Does anyone have suggestions for AI civs that tend to play a peaceful game? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think Siam can be fairly peaceful. Maybe the Mayans too.

Kamahameha is usually pretty peaceful unless he buddies up with a warmonger. He mostly prefers to trade and go cultural, but sometimes he gets a wild expansiveness hair up his butt.

Theodora, definitely. She's often been willing to DoF me, even after I previously DoW'ed her and DoW'ed other civs as well.

Kamahameha, Sejong and William are rather peaceful too.

Second tier for me would be: Haile, Pacal, and Pachacuti.

Darius and Hiawatha are often peaceful, but they do have a tendency to become runaway civs.

Haile seems extraordinarily peaceful for a civ. I've had my borders brushed up against him all game and never had a problem. Darius and Hiawatha are gambles, they are content to expand peacefully but the moment your borders block their expansion they go to war. William and Maria may be peaceful but they go from friendly to Guarded in a heartbeat.

That's weird, b/c Siam's exploded like a hanta virus in so many of my games, ICSing like crazy.

Ethopia also really enjoys to sabotage your crucial CS's.

I hate William; he always, and I mean ALWAYS, backstab me.

Funny how we all have different experiences; I've had nothing but good experiences with William.

To the OP, Nebuchadnezzar tends to be pretty peaceful and is incredibly reliable in terms of not backstabbing you and renewing DoF's.

I think our different experiences are to do with our different play styles and how the ai react to them and in turn how we react back to them.

From my experience, Isabella and Alexander have a tendency to backstab (denounce or DoW) when I have an ongoing DoF with them. I've occasionally had some games where Gustav was like this as well.

Bismarck, Catherine, Washington, and Wu are often deceptive and willing to denounce/DoW you if you are on "Friendly" terms, but I haven't had major issues of them doing this when we were formally DoF'ed.

I second Halie. That guy seems almost impossible to anger. Was playing as Carthage and Ethopia was close by. I didnt like his third city placement so i denounce him, told him not to settle cities near me and take your missonaries away. Still didnt declare war on me so i declared war and razed his city. Offered me a peace treaty and he was back to being friendly. I expanded further and one of his cities have a gold tile that my fourth city could use. I denounced and culture bomb his gold tile. Nope still not pissed off enough to declare war.

Attlia has been pretty good buds with me as long as i dont put any cities on his path of destruction:)

NONE of them are peaceful. They're all sheep-fur wearing jackals.

Kamehameha peaceful ???

That guy is like Napoleon, made worse by the fact he can spam cities far and wide across continents in the really early game.

Try high sea level archipelago. They're generally peaceful, when not sharing borders with you.

I've tried stacking the AI with "peaceful" civs, it doesn't help. In a recent game(King) Siam dropped their 2nd and 3rd cities 5 tiles from my capital by turn 58. Then they complained my army was too close, then denounced, then war. Also had a game(Emperor) a few days ago where I was in the middle of a continent with Gandhi and William on either side. After Gandhi had run out of room on his side, he starting settling on my opposite border. I asked him nicely to knock it off, he refused, and a few turns later he and William simultaneously DoWed me.
