So: How could we improve on Xen's wonderful tech tree? I figured we use somewhat the same structure for Spartan and Athenian techtree, but with diferent techs. I await ideas.

@The Last Conformist- I think "perioeci" hoplites should be availible from the start, but actual Spartiates be a little while down the tech tree- not much, mabey even one tech in, but we have to slow down the war a little anyway- remember, in the very first pelo. war, IIRC, nothing much happend- this could be best rbought on by all the civs just basicalyl sitting down, and reserching to get some real troops

@Amenhotep7- rather then edit my map, I think we should just make a new one, as that version was just made to be a rough outline of what a "default" map would look like if we didnt go indipendetn tech tree route, all I really need to do it is a list of wonders, and techs you guys want, an dwhere troops coming into play would be approprieate

Well, siege warfare was not widely used until toward the end of the Peloponnesian War, so let's make a "Siege Tactics" tech, but make the siege weapons unavailable to Sparta, as they never adopted it...Hmm...Well, that doesn't help that much for specific tech trees...Well, Wonders:


Great Theatre
Oracle of Dodona
Oracle of Delphi
Statue of Zeus
Olympic Games
Spartan Military Code or Agoge
Parthenon (bye bye Temple of Athena)
Long Walls of Piraeus
*Erechthleum (courtesy of Greek-Stud to replace Acropolis)
Mines of Amphipolis
Marble Quarries of Thasos
Great Port of Byzantium
Delian Treasury
Great Harbor
*Spartan Defense
*Council of Ephors or Great Rhetra
*Isthmian Ship Track (Maybe a better name)
Persian Alliance

Now we need to name the techs appropriate to these wonders... Persian Alliance should be in a kind of "Persian Intervention" or "Persian Funding" tech...

Anyways, just my $0.02...

P.P.S. Xen makes a point. Let's put a "Mobilization" tech just 1 tech after "Beginning of Peloponnesian War", and that'll allow for Spartaite.

your going to replace the citadel of Athens with a tiny temple to Hepheastos which was situated on the citadel anyway? to be honest, I would justy prefer, if you wanted to limit Athneian wonders, that you just use "the Acropolis", or the APrthenon- as the Erechtheum was a part of both

no disresepct meanty, but I dont think "mobilzation" would be approprite- neither side did a great deal of mobilization, at least not in my opinion, perhaps one could argue that near the end of the warts somthing resembiling mobilzation came into play, but not at the beginning

if the effect of mobilzation are what your looking to get, it would be better placed under a differnt name, or even spread into several other techs IMO

as for the Spartaites, yeah, a tech one or two techs in would be good, and on the spartan only brach of the tech tree

lets iron out some basic techs, and good names for them, but if I had to make a suggestion for the spartans, I would suggest "The Spartan way"

I remember how in the conquest forums me, and several other guys (several of you guys are here with me, I know Louis is, I'm not sure if you participate dor not LC) more or less spamed a thread to over 5000 posts that really where the bulk of my own posts are located in (sure, everything had a reason for being there for the most part, and it was mostlyl all god stuff, but it was still spam more or less, but in this case, it was reduced fat spam )
