PH05: THe Honorable Emperor Spaceman

OK, I highly recommend taking the peace deal as we can't hold the city. We should be all right as, with a holy city w/ stonehenge it'll win the culture war with the rest of his territory.

As stated above,we still suck but now we have some breathing space we should be able to right this ship!

Literature in 1, start GL straight away as the AI can't be too far behind. New York and Boston have the best production (8 and 7 resp). I'd say New York as it has a sword being built next turn so can start straight away (and its whip anger will disappear in 8 turns as well.)

After Literature I'd go CoL for Courthouses.

Toodle pip!

If I recall correctly conquered cities wonders do not give culture. Good report and enjoyed your turnset. On emperor and going for the GL is pretty good. It's just a matter of time before you rise in ranks.

. Yeah you're right Cosmic, forgot about that! We get the free monuments but not the culture. We will get the 5/turn from the holy city though.

Excellent stuff!!

Good stuff taking vienne and stonehenge, passing brennus, extorting techs and signing peace! [edit:I assumed you signed the peace treaty]

It's time for a major cottage spam. We good number of cities with high food that are excellent for growing. We can litter the terrain with cottages on all floodplains, grassland and river squares.

We should be able to recover our cashflow position in no time.

Excellent write up.

It's definately time for some cottaging and consolidation, and of course trying to stir up trouble in parts of the world where we are not. The Great Library, tho.. the only problem I see with NY is that if we need to chop, it might actually need the trees in the future, not being on the river and all.

Assuming I won't be up before the weekend, I am off to the Melbourne Cup :trophy:   next week, so I suppose I'm a skipper until about Wed 15th Nov.

Your report was excellent, but I don't want to play Quantum Monkies! And I want to rebuild, not re-take Vienne.

Consider this a got-it... once I get the 125 "AD" save.

Great story! The dream of a far-away land that GW had earlier is driving him to drink, eh? I hope later he won't lose his mind and become convinced that it existed on another planet, and decide that the Americans need to build a ship to sail the stars ~ this would explain why he has no time for wars of aggression ~ :D

Xerol > AWOL?

well, he's in australia, so i think he's sleeping at this point. I'll give him, say 6 more hours before a PM.

Hmm... what now after Literature? I think either Music OR Drama -> Philosophy -> Nationalism for trading for stuff like Currency and CoL. We need to backfill techs fast, and researching Code of Laws would probably help us in the short run but not catch up in tech. I don't think we'll get WFYABTA so early yet, and only Peter has Literature so far.

Boston will potentially have more hammers, but New York looks to be a better commerce city, so I will try for the GL (also with forest chops) in New York. Right?

I would say put up the GL wherever it can be done faster. Using those two specialists, the amt of commerce in the city won't matter too much. Try it'll mean more science bldgs, but they can be built in Boston just as easily.

as far as techs are concerned :dunno: but we will need to catch up somehow :D

I decided to build it in New York. Boston has more hammers but New York has more trees (and food supply to run scientists specialist also). NY can be National Epic or Oxford or Wall Street city in future. If worried about lack of hammers, it has enough rivers to run watermills in the future and population will grow fast enough for whipping. Boston has high production and I'd build the Heroic Epic or Ironworks there.

Science-wise we need to look at our strategy:
--> We need loads of commerce for science and the space race.

To me that means heading to currency and Education. We cant declare so lets focus on science and achieving as much as possible on our own. That even means working less mines and more cottages. The hammerless challenge taught me you can out-tech monarch AI by a long way, should be possible on Emperor.

Calendar or Monarchy would be good if we need happiness for growth. We have beavers for happiness, not sure what else.

We might need to go to MC and Machinery first in case we need more powerful units and production power.

Ziggy Stardust and Washington invite Brennus to fund Ziggy's charity concert in Vienne, "Give Peace a Chance, Live at Stonehenge 125AD"! Brennus, tired of this war, decides that such a concert is very timely. Priesthood and Polytheism were traded up to fund the concert.

It was a success and the American and Celtic people were rocking together in the concert instead of banging heads on the battlefield.

Peace came to the American lands, and the American people have become happy because of the concert. So happy that they erected monuments of Ziggy Stardust in their cities. Just looking at such monuments injects a relaxing sensation of happiness to all who pass by. (+1 happiness due to Charismatic)

With the people's happiness and the Celtic war out of the way, George Washington once more consulted the shamans about his dream... about the vision he saw, of his people riding on the shiny beast... unfortunately it wasn't so clear to anyone. The shamans advised Washington to wait for another vision. And that agitated him so much, the fact that he couldn't interpret the shiny beast, that he just focused on building his empire for now. His empire of ROCK and HEAVY METAL, that is!

Soon, the people learned how to write their own magazines and fan fiction about Ziggy Stardust: the man, the myth, the legend. (Literature) Afterwards, the people decide that they need to make a musical stage play out of Ziggy's illustrious life (now researching Drama).

The people of Washington, inspired by Ziggy, decide to construct their Axeman guards out faster by working harder in the forests and mines, then move on to the theater to help brainstorm Ziggy's dramatic stage debut and lighting effects (assign 2 scientists while building a Lighthouse sloooowly), which cuts research time by 1/3.

Boston builds a Granary, but inspired by the heroics of Ziggy, the citizens train to become Swordsmen. The mayor senses the need for more empire defence and plans another Axeman. After that, they start another monument, an even grander monument to the heroism of Ziggy. It's called the Heroic Epic of Ziggy. (Some other mayors object to this one, saying THEIR city should have it? I'll let the council decide.)

Some troops from Vienne, flush with victory, move on to their next conquest, the barbarian city. Others stay behind to guard against future incursions by the treacherous Brennus.

Tolosa finishes setting up bookstores and newsstands for sale of Ziggy-related showbiz magazines (Library). Now they work on a building to store food to feed all-night parties that involve the populace jamming to Ziggy tunes (Granary). Philadelphia does the same (Library -> Granary).

Tolosa however, finishes its Granary faster, so it begins a Jewish Monastery to spread the warm hippie feeling around.

Speaking of savages, unruly fans outside of America file into Washington to try to get their Ziggy publications. Unfortunately they have been turned away at the gates. Again and again. To have such violence just for a rockstar. Typical. Some human rights groups are already planning protests against the government.

Meanwhile, back in New York, The Great Library of Ziggy is under construction. It is made of entirely out of high quality pine wood (4 forests) so far. Soon more wood (chop the last nearby forest please) and the blood of loyal fans (whip ASAP) will be added to it.

Trades:
Early in the turns, Peter signs up himself and some of his colleagues for true-blue American yoga classes by coughing out 150 gold. (I sell it because he's going to get it sooner and we needed the money bad.)

ph05sellmeditationfg1.jpg

Louis offers a resource trade the people of America can't refuse: one that lets them paint their faces like savages and color up their hair in funky shades--perfect for rock concerts. Makes them happy, whatever floats their boat, that's the bottom line.

ph05dyebt9.jpg

(We can afford to lose our happy monuments soon. Once we trade "Lit + Drama" to Brennus for "Calendar + cash", do try hooking up the spices near Tolosa to replace the monument happiness. And try "Drama + gold" for Monarchy from someone else. Here's the trade situation at the end of my turns:)
(EDIT: Sorry, can't get cash from Brennus until HE, or we, get Currency.)

ph05trades375adgg4.jpg

(I think Drama then Philosophy then probably Paper or probably Nationalism is a good tech path for now to backfill our techs. That's why i picked up Drama first. Peter is the most pleased with us, we should probably trade with him for the most expensive and latest techs while getting cheaper ones from Bis or Louis.)

Also Ziggy's band, Army of Darkness (Swords + Axes) approaches the barbarian city. Of course you know what should happen when there's an Army and a city involved... a concert! :mischief:

Good stuff RK, Great story, ziggy rocks

I should be able to play tonight I will focus on getting the barbarian city and expanding our commerce base.

That means currency and cottages. Even working less mines in favour of working and growing cottages. Anything else?

Thanks! Ziggy does rock!
:band:

Two more things.
*I still have two scientists in Washington. When we get a Great Sci, we could either pop Philosophy or build an Academy in NY.
*I think Bureaucracy will kill us in this new patch, and running Nationalism (NO UPKEEP OMG!) or Vassalage instead may save us money. (Another reason to go for Nationalism, we will get Feudalism sooner or later.)

Philosophy may good to pop for a trade, and then we can focus on the 3 C's: currency, code and CS. i agree on the focus on growth and commerce; maybe emph both in all cities, except perhaps Boston (use this for mil production?)
