PH15: Every One is Special

Seeing that we're already at war with Bod we could continue the war without diplomatic penalties, cataphants should work ok against gallic warriors, raze some cities, maybe keep a nice jewish city so we can convert.

I thought I had taken quite some screenies but thanks to my stupid Microsoft keyboard I actually didn't. You either have the function keys F1-12 availaible or PrtScr, but never both at the same time. I found out looking in the screensaves folder that obviously it was in F-mode and not in PrtScr-mode. At least I could do F5 right away to make sure :lol:.

So I can only present two screenshots of the current situation.

T192 - My set started by moving nearly all available units apart from garrison towards engineering town. Boudica started massing her forces and was a bit afraid she might overwhelm us with sheer numbers and typical gallic zeal.
Kept research on calendar as no one wanted to trade it to us yet.

T193 - Mehmed will trade Calendar, but finds Construction not worthy enough. Everybody else knew that already anyway. I decide to invest another turn into calendar to see if he bites, as I didn't want to throw in CoL, Aesthetics or HBR yet which was tech we only shared with Pacal, who probably is not liked by anybody anyway. Qin has Calendar available as well but is more advanced than our Turkish friend.

T194 - Mehmed now does find Construction appealing enough for Calendar so we do the trade. I really wanted to get Currency now that Pacal and Biz have, but they won't give it away. Contemplate whether like with Calendar researching some turns into it might help, but decide against it as we don't have anything on offer for Pacal anyway and Biz, well, he gives me this stare from behind his moustache that makes me doubt he will part with it. So I select Civil Service next. Good to have and hopefully has trade value.

T198 - Boudica has been poundig Engineering City with cats from the start of my turnset but decides that now that cultural defences are down it's the right time to attack. She had quite a sizeable stack of 10-15 units (I thought I had a screenie so didn't take note), but by this time EC had more than enough defences with some jumbo's and quite some archers. We lost 2 units as Boudica had 2 wounded men left standing of her stack. They were subsequently killed, although it cost a jumbo who had 95% odds. Darn, I just wanted some XP.
So here I contemplated pigswill's suggestion of continuing the war with Boudi or not. Of course she had lost quite some troops but at that moment we had I think 4 cats and 3 wounded jumbos and a bunch of archers. Enough for defence but not for offence as surely Boudi would already be busy spamming her troops back. So I took an evenhanded peace.

T199 - Our Science City builds the Great Library. I bet you'll be all darn sorry I lost the screeny of that highly unusual event.

T200-209 - Basically building stuff. Some new elephants and buildings. I haven't used the whip much as I thought it a good idea to grow a bit. I was a bit half hearted I must admit about going in full military build-up mode as Pacal already had longbows.
Science city built a courthouse while engineering city is on one as well. Priest city is nearly done with a temple so it can actually hire a priest. Not sure whether to do that, but I felt the possibility had to be there as otherwise it shouldn't be called priest city... The capital got barracks and stables to help with military things. Parthenon City has 8 turns left to deserve its name.

Not a very interesting picture, but it shows two things, the size of our not extremely impressive offensive forces and some forest clearing I did for chain irrigation towards priest city. From 1NW of the capital into SW direction. The tile 2NW of Priest City is not farmable, unfortunately.

I stopped here because Civil Service came in. I didn't revolt yet. This is the tech screen and there are some opportunities.

I would suggest getting Feudalism from Mehmed for it and from Qin currency plus a whole pile of cash. Right now he offers currency + 720 gold for it. Stupid Biz still doesn't want to trade currency so I guess I interpreted his stare correctly.

O, before I forget, I made a deal with Biz, giving him rice for 5gpt, basically to speed CS up as much as possible. Could be cancelled if we wish.

And another thing, our skirmishes with Boudica gave us a great general, which is merged in Military City.

And one last edit: I scouted the NW but found out that Biz already took over there, not so surprisingly.

Maybe you can take it Meiz, as the Zen Master seems to have drifted away for a while.

Sure, got it.

Edit: Is elephant/catapult vs. longbows a lost cause or should we continue to build our army?

I'm not a ele/cat expert, but maybe if we just bring numbers it'll be doable. IIRC right now our power rating is equal to Pacal so if we make an effort spamming units we may get an edge. With only phants, holkans may be an even bigger pain than longbows though.

Here's the summary of my round.

Revolted to Bureaurcracy, pressed enter and noticed that we lost the game!. Pacal built the Pantheon, but if we invade him really quickly, maybe no one will notice?

Qin got CS for Currency + 720 gold, CoL to Bismarck for 130 gold and the following trade with Mehmed.

We also researched Paper and are about to finish Education at the end of my round.

National Epic was build in science city and Heroic Epic in our military city. We have marble so it's not huge delay. We did get one GS which was of course settled and we are about to get another one soon.

Bad news is that Boudica has enough on his hands again, so I upgraded couple of archers to longbows and started to move our war elephants closer to that front.

We are making slow progress on the troop buildup...

And the roster is:

Pholkhero
Meiz - Just played
Pigswill - Up
R_rolo
Thy_Spellcraft
Nocho

As the rules state we must build the Parthenon we have indeed lost the game.

I've got it.

We could mark this as a defeat and start again on another map, same leader, same map script, same restrictions/variants.

We could go out in a blaze of glory and just invade Bod and see how many cities we can raze before we got dog-piled. Shock LBs should protect against spears, ellies defend against everything else.

Defeat! That's rather shocking... I tried to speed up the Parthenon as much as possible but there was not much to do about it. I guess we just started it too late. It was 535AD after all already when I finished my set.

I don't know if there's much point in continuing if we have formally lost. I do very much like the concept of this game though, so I'd favor a new try. Apart from having stone and marble we haven't been too lucky with the lay of the land either I think, being boxed in a bit and without metals to forcefully get us some more room earlier.

While waiting for pholkhero to make an appearance or global warming to flood my house (its 50:50 which comes first) I'll go ahead and beat up on Bod.

Ok.. my first SG defeat..

So I'd vote for a re-roll!!

But just another thing: Who started the NE in our science city??? As far as I see this had been a no go taking our variant rules as it generates Artists points..

You're right of course . What a screwup

Edit: Just read from another page that pholk has suffered some hardware failure. I always suspected he wasn't human...
