Pillaging

sounds great when going after a big agressive civ - works in the early stage of the game because you can whittle at the enemies economy and cripple him before attacking the cities

but as soon as there is a dense road network and railways it becomes difficult because the enemy attacks from all directions in force - but you can't reinforce quickly because you are inside enemy territory.

any tips

Gunships.

Hate to break the thread, but don't forget that gunships are the only units that can enter mountain tiles. So ending your turn on a cozy mountaintop means that only other gunships can attack your raiders.

really? never tried
but indeed, gunships are the best pillagers, just from their movement points

Commando work for choppers? (you'd have to upgrade mounted units of course)

If so, think blitzing commando whirlybirds.......
