Pirates of the Spanish Main scenario

Rambuchan said:
GeneralMatt: That's a whole load of shipping. Is the game going to be long enough for each of them to justify their place, without becoming obsolete too quickly? Pretty sure that will be the case, but just checking :) I hope you won't be neglecting the land units and land action. There was another pirate scen, which was good, but it was woefully and overly concerned with shipping imho. That was something that stopped me playing it. Piracy isn't just about 'terror on the sea'.

Well, if you play the game you will eralize there is very little land battle, only a few units can land on a island and do anything (crew with the 'marine' keyword) and you can build forts.

I am thinking we can have 1 land unit per civ, they all have amphibous, with stats differences,

Also, The tech tree will be very limited as in 'Pirates' you get what you start with.

Is there any way to get a ship unit to load onto another? Because that is how the musketeers, cannoneer's work. Not sure about the helmsman, explorer, oarsman.

This is my email to Wizkids and there reply.

Not much help...

Subject: Making a Civilization 3 Scenario based on Pirates

Hello!

My name is Matthew, and I am making a Civilization 3 scenario based on Pirates.

Here is a link to the thread on a forum about it. 'Goldflash' is helping me.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=166687

What I am wondering is if it is ok if we use the paintings found on your site and transform them into a format that can be used in Civilization 3 for leaderheads. Leaderheads are pictures (sometimes animated) that you see when talking to another civilization. The pictures are of the other Civilizations leader.

This is not for profit, just for fun as we love both Pirates and Civilization 3.

We would have to cropp the images a bit on the sides and the top as the images need to be in a rectangle shape.

Thank you for your Time,

Matt.

We shouldn't try to emulate the game exactly. Civ is rather mlimited in what it can do, so we should use what we have to make an awesome scanrio Based on the Wizkids game. If you want to play the Pirates CSG (Constructable Strategy Game) Go to your local game/comic book store, or to Wal-Mart, and pick up a pack. Its only four dollars. Or you can do the goldflash methjoed and buy like, a billion packs.

Honestly, I think we need more land units than just one. Plenty. Including Pirate Artillery. Arr!

A note- Three Masted Schooners didn't apear until 1800, four masters untill 1870. No four masters in our scenario. And three and four masters didn't Scoon very well...

Again, our map, Carribean. and up the eastern seaboard a bit. Ole Eddy Teach (Blackbeard) got sunk off the Carolinas, you know.

Explorer should be a unit, Helmsman, Cannoneer, and such really can't be. Would be great but Civ is rather limited.

I would thinks the Pirates would get slightly different ships than the Europeans, not totattly, but somewhat. I mean, the Europeans would gets some small and more large and trade vessles, Pirates would get fewer large ones and more small ones. The cursed ones would hhave ghosty ships Ooooo!

And we could throw in UUs or whatever.

Heh. Consitution. 22 Points. I have the HMS Dreadnaught at 26 points. In fact, I have three. If you don't count the Boade Laun (A Promo piece worth 30 points) Thats the most expensive ship in the game. Its a piece, too. Real expensive, not enough cargo, and only moves S.

I'd be happy to trade with you, Matt. Just my trade list isn't up to date at all. And, Goldflash need to find el Job. He got Fired. The ONE time I forget to Card for tobacco, its a Police Sting, and BP automatically terminates slaves employees who fail a card test. Sigh.

Hmm, I posted a topic on the Wizkids forum asking about legality and all...

I was thinking for musketeers, give them bombard, and if there is someway we can get them to bombard when loaded on ships...

Hmm, I like that idea about ships and stuff, ok no Four masted schooners.

But I sort of like the look of three masted ones...

I am not up to speed n the enslave stuff (still don't got conquest) but I would assume this would be perfect for Pirates? Even the Europeans?

Yep, Pirate artillery sounds good, how 'bout the pirate unit mentioned earlier for the pirates (most factions infantry), foot guard for the English infantry, something similar for the french/spanish/americans. (maybe we could use the musketman for the spanish?) .

I trade, but I bet I have nothing you want :p .

Yeh, my cousin just picked one up in a pack and wouldn't trade it for a Goliath, Bonhomme Richards, and a couple others..

But My best are Constitution, and El Guarantee, nice special abilities.

Too bad about your job, hope you get a new one soon!

I am hoping to get a few more packs thursday, we don't live to near where you can get them. I have $110 Canadian I can spend on them ($5 each here) but I am not sure if I really want to blow it all away on that, last time I spent abit and Got the Roanoke, El Guarntee, Bonhomme Richards, and the Dauphin Royal..

Just a thought that hit me.

What about changing the eras to

Ancient=Spanish Main
Medival=Crimson coast
Industrial=Revolution
Modern=(maybe) barbary and Jade?
Or we could just ignore the modern era...

They do go through time like this.

More Civs

So, one thingI've thopught is having a Privateer Civ for each or most of the European Kingdoms. These would be in a locked alliance with thier parent nation, and even have the same color.

The French - Amrial Stephan Dupuy - Blue

PPCC_084.jpg

French holdings include most of Hispanola and islands in the lesser Antilles and Virgin Islands.

The Buccaneers - Le Requin - Blue

PPCC_029_1.jpg

French Pirates and Privateers. Thier starting zone- Totuga. Defiently.

English - Sir Christopher Myngs - Red

PPSM_EC-002.jpg

English holdings include the Bahamas, Jamaica, Bermuda, and Islands
in the Virgin Islands.

Her Majesty's Privateers - Admrial Morgan - Red

PPSM_EC-001.jpg

English Pirates and Privateers. Starting area should be Port Royal or somewhere near it on Jamacia. Another possible leader is Woodes Rogers, but its Captian Henery! w00t!

The Spanish - Almirante Devante del Nero - Yellow

PPSM_SC-006.jpg

Spanish holdings include... well.. alot. Cuba, Mexico, Panama, the Northern Coast of South America (the Spanish Main), Puerto Rico and parts of Hispanola. There are alot of good looking crew to use for the Spanish leader.. we may have to play "Which one looks coolest!"

Los Piratas - 'Don' Pedro Gilbert - Yellow

PPRV_016.jpg

Spanish Pirates and Privateers. Start Somewhere on the Main.

The Dutch - Graf van Zaandt - Orange

PPSM_SC-010.jpg

I know the Dutch aren't in the game but they should be. Graf van Zaandt is a character of my own creation. Dutch holdings are the ABC Islands, and Islands in the Vigin Islands.

Vrijbuiters - Roc Bransillio - Orange

PPSC_069.jpg

Dutch Pirates and Privateers. Start them in the Indes.

Sounds good! I like the privateer idea, make it much more interesting!

I am looking for a map right now.

Maybe one of these http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=52927&d=1082307004

Or this
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=1704183#post1704183

I was thinking more oarnge for the Spainiards as we need yellow fpr the 'good' pirates.

Civs so far.

Black Pirates
Cursed Pirates
Bayou Pirates
The Swashbuckler
The Lady Pirates

English
English Privateers
French
French Privateers
Americans (their navy was of privateers mostly)
Spanish
Spanish Privateers
Dutch
Dutch Privateers

All playable?

There is a Carribean map, but it is rather small and doesn't go up the coast as I'd like (Though maybe that would add too much useless interior land)...

Inorder to make it so We don't have the Pirates settler rushing to colonize Florida, maybe we should disable settlers...

Oh, I forgot to do a leader thingy for the American Colonies... meh. I'll do it later. Right now I feel like making a trade list.

Hopefuly I will be able to get C3C, but who knows.

In a beta version I did a few days ago, I made none able to build settlers, infantry units replacing workers in the terraforming category and stuff like that. Ships/land units cost citizens. I Did that because colonies would not be 100,000's of citizens, and manning a ship would certainly take a chunk out of there pop.

Yes, only able to capture cities (not build, or maybe we can make settlers come with a later tech? What about resources? I think Lumber, Iron, Saltpeter, (Maybe even one called 'crew' or 'recruits').

OMG, you guys better hurry up and make this, I'm itching to have a go. It is sounding juicey

As for the email:

Yes really. But take your time and do it properly, as you seem to be doing so far.

The email in response sucks. You'll have to go back to the drawing board, literally and metaphorically.

Well, I'll bug Rob. Make him do some leaderheads for me.

That is a good idea Goldflash! Even unanimated ones would be ok, for that would be much easier (and we weren't plannin' on using animated ones before).

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rambuchan! This is really one of the first things I have done for the public (Did somethin; for Civ 4).

But we will see how it all pan's out. :)
