I just bought the game. The US patch doesn't work for me. I bought the game in sweden. What a disappointment.

Must I install the game in program files\firaxis games\... etc like that?

When I start the update file, I get this error message: "Cannot modify E:\program files\...\pirates!.exe". E: for me is the cd drive, so that's pretty odd.

Did you guys install in the default folders for it to work?

Yes, it doesn't work for other countries unfortunately.

However, there should be another patch that fixes some of the issues as well as localization things.

They have delayed it because of Take-Two's purchase of Pirates! from Atari. So when the dust clears, we should hear of the newer patch, as Barry has said.

Yep, should be soon. They weren't able to get one out sooner because of the Take2 transfer from Atari.

You're not missing much.
The patch didn't do half of what it claimed to do and even then it also introduced new bugs.
