It's not what it was in the 1700's. Those were the glory days before the Royal Navy started dishing out kickings.

Avast ye matey, prepare to be boarded!! Arrrr!!!

Somalis do seem to have lowered the reputation of the profession a bit lately, though. :(

Real Pirates don't use Steel Boats. It's against the code.

R!

Are we talking about Sid Meier's Pirates, or the real thing? I love the game, sans the blasted dancing mini-game. Real pirates I obviously don't like (who would??).

Come on, Captain Jake Sparrow? Who couldn't like him?

<Ahem> I beleive the proper PC term for them is "freelance-privateer" ;)

Who wouldn't like Captain Jack Sparrow? People who are capable of recognizing one of the worst movies ever made, that's who. Sparrow must be the gayest pirate character of all time. Swashbuckler? More like swishbuckler!
As opposed to those masculine pirates who spent months at sea in close quarters to a bunch of sweaty fellas with bad teeth?

I'm a space pirate, using my trusty cloaking device my starship can beam out the contents of UFOs, flying pyramids, Death Stars, and Vulcan survey vessels without them ever noticing.

 Such silly exaggeration makes your claim seem childish and silly.
