Planes and machine guns - slow gfx

I've had this problem since before the expansion. It used to happen when bombarding, but that seems to be addressed by Warlords.

Essentially the graphic that is displayed when a machine gun fires (the machine gun unit only) and when a plane attacks, I get a massive slowdown during the fight. It's very related to the yellow flash graphic coming from the units. Does anyone else see this, or know how to fix it? It's the only slowdown I experience.
