Not to be confused with Planet X the fictional planet, I believe its main name is actually "Nibiru"

Heres a nice link on the subject: http://www.december212012.com/articles/PlanetX_Nibiru/NASA_AND_PLANET_X.htm
Thoughts and opinions on the matter? Google it if you want to find out information, Just avoid all the silly nonsense websites that are made by silly people and find the nice factual ones

Its basically a huge object, which is estimated to pass between us and the sun in 2012. Its effects can already be felt across the world (Drastically changing weather, hurricanes, etc etc)

Interesting fact: The mayan Calander has predicted all kinds of amazing things through history, and I don't believe its ever made a mistake. It even predicted lunar eclipses centuries forawd in time extremely accurately etc.

It ends on 2012... interesting isn't it?

Its supposed to be the end of our age, and the beginning of a new age.

Now of course everyone is going to be like "the world has been predicted to end millions of times before, y2k crap blablablabla" etc etc.

But, If you go to a astronomy you can actually *see* planet x, apparently. Its that close. There is pictures from nasa a few years back of planet x on the internet.

Another interesting fact, Google Space etc, Have the area were planet x is located blacked out.

Nasa were the first ones to locate the object, and posted it on their website. They then removed this statement, which can be found on the internet in screenshots, and denied its existance.

Its even been said that it can be the end of the world as described in the bible, due to the huge horns that seem to emit from its sides.

Its *even* been said that this will cause the North and South pole to swap, causing all kinds of incredible castrophes across the globe.

Now I'm not putting in any of my own thoughts and opinions on this, I just find it interesting. Anyone care to debunk this for me if you feel you can?

Anyone else got better information on the subject?

Be wary of videos on youtube, as alot of them are very silly and just put there by crazy people no doubt.. Make sure you filter out the good from the bad when watching vids / surfing the web about it.

edit- Fixed the link

Any similarity between actual events and those 'foretold' in the Mayan calendar or the ancient desert survival handbook are purely coincidental. I refuse to even entertain the idea that this could be the fulfilment of any kind of prophecy.

Have you read Arthur C. Clarke's "Rendezvous with Rama"? Good science fiction book dealing with an event similar to this.

If the world will really end at 2012, at least I could say that I had a good life. But to be honest, I don't give a crap about this 2012-deal: The last time they said the world will experience the ends of civilization was 2000 and of course we know now, that nothing actually did happen. It must be the boredom of some people which causes those predictions about the specific date of the apocalypse.
All what the ancient Mayan calendar says is the ending of an era, of a specific, fixed period of time, and by no means the end of everything we know and see.

The fact that the Mayan long count calendar ends on December 21, 2012 has exactly the same significance as the fact that a wall calendar ends on December 31st every year and nobody has bothered to produce calendars for 2100 yet.

If ancient Mayan culture were still around, they would simply start counting again from the beginning.

Bwahaha.

How do you fix a Polish doomsday prophesy that has come and gone? You don't. :p

Screw the Mayans and their crazy 2012 theory.

According to Polish folklore the world is going to end in 1972. Yes, we realize the date has passed, but we're not giving up hope.
That's the end of the world as they knew it. That year I was born and things have never been the same.

Spoiler :
As if things ever were the same

[The Mayan calendar] It ends on 2012... interesting isn't it?

They had to stop somewhere and carving out 2,000 years in advance probably seemed like an adequate place to stop.

You sir are making to much sense, and I demand that you stop your sense making immediately before your logical thoughts infect us all.

I really hope that is the link that was supposed to be in the OP. Have you read it? It's fantastically daft.

It even at one point assumes the 'biblical flood' 7,200 years ago and the 'Jewish exodus', 3,600 years ago, using these to suggest a cataclysm with period 3,600 years that must occur again soon.

7,200 years ago, during the cataclysm known as “Noah’s flood“, “sudden changes in temperature, violent storms and water avalanches from Antarctica broke off from their ‘ice prison’ Dr. John T. Hollin at Maine University (U.S.A.) considers that large pieces periodically came out of the Antarctic ice field creating a huge tide” (Zecharia Sitchin, The Twelfth Planet).

Can't remember the title, but this reminds me of an Asimov/someone else novel where a solar eclipse happened every 1000 or so years. Only the planet had 3 suns so the darkness would freak people out leading to anarchy and a religious sect.

It also had a rollercoaster which only feature was that it drove around in the dark for a while. Only the toughest individuals would dare take a ride.

Fairly well known novel, so if anyone remembers the title I'd be grateful. Love to read it again.

edit: Found it. Nightfall by Asimov/Silverberg. And there were 6 stars.
