Across the forum, I hear discussions about bugs such as the black land and the the cat from Alice in Wonderland effect (Im to lazy to spell the cat's name ATM :p), and issues with video cards. I am wondering from the people who still dont have Civ4 if they plan to wait untill a later date to buy Civ4.

Poll is comming so please be paitent.

Ill post my answer at a later date to give everyone a chance to post and vote :).

Even with all of the stuff I have read today on the forum, none of it would scare me away. I've waited too long to not get a copy and find out for myself how it runs, as soon as possible. I'd try it now, and patch it later. Besides, I don't know how this release compares to other games, but I know that there was similar panic and frustration the day games like Sim City 4 came out, HL2, etc.

You bet I'm going to wait! I have an ATI video card and there seems to be some major problems running the game on them. One poll had 75% of Radeon users not being able to play the game. I won't be buying it until these problems have been resolved. I'm not going to waste any money on a game I may not be able to play.

It shouldn't scare people away, these are not bugs in the sense that it is probably just balance between:

1. Drivers needing updated.
2. An insufficiently powerful graphics card / or other hardware.

Sure these are frustrating, but they are part and parcel of playing games on a PC unfortuantly. If nothing else it should remind us why advanced technology is fraught with risk and that our lifeline systems should be simple e.g don't build nuclear power stations etc.

I guess if I wasn't able to update drivers or upgrade my video card I would not buy the game either. But for me, if the game didn't work it's just the excuse I would need for a new video card. :mischief: I WILL make the game work, whatever the time or the expense

The poll options are naff, where is the no option if you don't already have it?

I'm awaiting my pre-ordered copy from play.com whilst exploring other options.

It's alot more than that. Even people with top of the line cards and the latest drivers are reporting problems. Firaxis even has a sticky thread dealing with the issue. There is a general problem with ATI cards, pure and simple.

That's because people who were able to play the game were playing the game, not seeking out polls to vote on how they couldn't play the game. :p

So why is there a special sticky thread dealing with the issue, with Firaxis people responding to it? Face it, there's a major problem with the game, and I won't be spending any money on it until it's fixed. Especially since my ATI 9550 seems to be one of the cards that is having problems.

Yeah im gonna get it later when things cool down a bit and i can sit back and relax

Okay i can't afford it right now

You forgot an option there:

Yes, i plan to wait till i actually have money to can buy the game.

Not that you would plan that, it more just happens i guess.

This poll is a little premature as the game is not available everywhere yet and half the potential players are still waiting to get their hands on it.

My answer would be "Yes, I plan to buy it as soon as it is released in the UK"

This thread is kind of pointless. Do you think people who are already playing the game without problems will jump on these forums and post their success. Doubt it! Forums generally bread unhappy game players/buyers since the forums are a way of finding a resolution.

What about the option - "I plan to wait until the first patch AND the first expansion pack is released"

I had pre-ordered my copy and got it this morning. It runs smoothly and I do have an ATI card (x700 Pro). To me, the game seems quite polished and I can't confirm any of the troubles that I saw posts about. No doubt, there are people who experience tech issues, but frankly, I see that happen whenever a new game is released... doesn't seem Civ4-specific to me. People who don't have many problems are probably busy playing. (Or they are poor sobs like me who have to get at least some work done before they can excuse themselves for a while!

I need to update my video card and i'll wait until the first pacth is released. From what I hear the release version tends to be a bit buggy.

Fully agreed. My answer would be that I fully intend to buy

the moment it is available for me.
