Playing FF2 Multiplayer?

Myself and a few friends decided we wanted to play this multiplayer however we are not quiet sure how this is done.

I see a lot of people talking about Hamachi, 2 of us downloaded it and booted it up but i thought this program was supposed to simulate a lan, therefore we could create a lan game while connected to hamachi.

Neither of us could find each others game on the list for Lan but Direct IP connect worked (only if i created). Once in the game we immediatly get an OOS error. Thinking something was wrong we decided to install and patch (patch C) Fall Further.

Again using direct IP connection, we got OOS immediatly.

So my question is this: Are we using Hamachi wrong, and if not why do we get OOS immeditaly in both different mods?

Sounds like you got hamachi right, it is that simple to use. One of you probably has a restrictive router or firewall which won't be a problem as long as that person doesn't host and theres only a single similarly restrictive router/firewall in your multiplayer group. If theres more than one there will be problems and you'll have to work out how to lower the security on one of them.

Before you go messing about with mods and bring in all kinds of complications, how about testing out MP with regular FFH on a recent patch?

Looks like they did?

Actually, considering that FF (and RifE, possibly Wild Mana, and Orbis as of next version) is a complete download not reliant on FfH for anything, and FfH recently had a large patch that may or may not have introduced OOS's (I really wouldn't know, don't play vanilla FfH.), switching to a different related mod is a perfectly valid idea.

Yeah i assumed Fall Further was a completely different mod than Ff2, thats why we installed and tried it. Also we are using patch M for Ff2.

Still no luck, waiting on the 2 others to finish their Civ4 download and then we will test it again i guess.

It is common for OOS first turn.

As far as other mod-mods, they are not as stable as vanilla FFH2.

For OOS's, I managed to get a FFH patch L game into the 400's (normal speed) with no OOS's. Since patching to M, we get bouts of anywhere between 5 and 150 turns between OOS's, though more of course in the late game, but if you are liking the game with only 1-2 other people, it is still playable. Note, when getting an OOS, save the game, and restart it. If you get one or two more OOS in the next ten turns or so, end civ entirely (everyone) and then restart the game. I have found (and so has at least one other person here) that this generally allows you to play anywhere between 25-50 turns more without OOS before they start cropping up again.

Now for the mods. Wild Mana 7.11 was rock solid (OOS were VERY rare), but 7.2 gets them significantly more frequently. Fall Further is only kinda-stable; you'll get OOS's fairly regularly, though if you use Icero's multiplayer stability module it becomes significantly more stable. There are some civs that you'll want to avoid though - namely, any civ that works a different city radius (jotnar, kuriotates, etc.), and the scions. Icero's module disables them, as well as the other major contributer to OOS - ranged attack that all humans can't see.

Orbis I haven't played in a while, though its stability was similar to Fall Furthers - sometimes much better, sometimes worse. I haven't played with the latest patch to be able to tell you how it is right now. RIFE was horrible with OOS (almost completely unplayable multiplayer) a while ago, so I haven't touched it multiplayerwise since. The last one you might want to consider trying is the Magister Modmod, which you can find under FFH2 modules, scenerios, and maps.

hope this helps
