Playtesters needed for TSFE Axis!

My e-mail is kevin671@hotmail.com. Perhaps you should send it as a linki to your site, due to file size restrictions on hotmail for attachments. Thanx!

Marko i have a suggestion.
Alright Paratroopers were available to the Germans in WW2.
Hitler decided never to use them again after the Invasion of Crete.
Well i think the german player should be able to build Paratroopers.
Scenarios are made, to see if you can "change history"
If i was hitler i would've continued to use Paratroopers.
They're a good force.
So i think you should allow the Germans to build Fallschmirjagers. :)

Germans have 10 paratroopers units at the beginning of the scenario. If you want to build more then you have to research Infantry IV. As you have already Infantry III then it is just one step away.

Paratroopers are quite good units in TSFE, so I didn't want that Axis can build them en masse at the beginning.
I made the same with Soviet T-34, KV-1 and KV-2 tanks. Historically Soviets had these tanks already in 1940. But I didn't want that they can build them so early in the scenario. So Soviets have some of these tanks in the beginning but they can't build more until they discover Mobile Warfare II (usually in Spring 41).

Sounds good :)

Marko, I got two mails from you, put I presume that the attachments were missing...........
Can you please resend them???

Thanks a lot, I´m eager to play again......

Sincerly, Tracid

thanks a lot marko.

I played the first few turns, and I like the new one even better.

France is now much harder to beat, especially the battle for belgium is fierce. My losses went up nearly 200% compared to the previous version. I also like the new air-war system. The allies support their tanks in belgium nicely with bombers and stack fighters with them. Pretty hard to destroy, took 80% of my available fighters in first two turns. I like the way that the french even manage to make a counter attack in their first turn. Also the SS panzer division is nicely done, when lost.
Still, here are some minor things that I think could use a workover:

Battleships are too powerful against air attacks. I threw 6 Ju88 at one and it wouldn´t die.

You should fortify island and Torshavn stronger. At least the later, it is much too easy to get and hold it.

The french possesions in north africa should be a little harder to take. At least reduce the amount of offensive units in Tripolis at startup.

That are all for now. As I said, the battle for france is now much better, the sappeurs rock and the air system is cool. I will look at the barbarossa and things today or tomorrow, hopefully!

Sincerly, Tracid

Thank you Tracid.

I'll move all offensive units from Tripoli to Benghazi. Also upgrade Torshavn's and Island's defences. I'll look what I can do with battleships. They must be hard to sink because they are very expensive but 6-7 Ju-88 are really too much.

OK, it´s me again. No, I didn´t get to Barbarossa yet, but I went from the conquest until the conquest of Greece a full 6 times yesterday. Why? Because the first time the Turks attacked me in strenght, and two turns after that I was attacked by the minors. So, out of the 6 times I conquered Greece, Turkey attacked me........6 times. Which was followed by a sneak attack of the Minors 3 times, and by one of the Spanish 1 time. Now I am not really sure if there is anything that can be done about it. But for the Axis version I would strongly suggest that something is done. I would say that rendering non-combatants without movement-capable units would be one way. As there is no way (at least none I know of) to get one of them join the war on your side, that would be nice. Make Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal almost impossible for the Axis to conquer. Make Turkey conquerable, as there were some plans for a push through it in WWII. What do you think about it?

One more thing, i think that the polish infantry is too strong. You really have to take one movement away, or one firepower. They are killing me in North Africa.........:)

Sincerly, Tracid

You have missed the diplomatic part of the game :)
You can freely negotiate with everybody except Allies and Soviets. It helps much the war effort.

Playing as Axis I usually make peace with France after conquering northern part of it. Then I give some money or technologies to them and ask France to declare war to Allies. I do the same with Spanish and Turkey. They are willing to attack Allies after some gifts.

Turkey will tie down most Allied reinforcements in Middle-East, making them weaker in Africa. Spanish will neutralise Allied airforce in Gibraltar and have even chance to take the fortress. French Mediterranean fleet is big help for Italian navy and their Near-East colonies also tie down great number of Allied troops.

Special units:

It seems that Allies have airlifted Polish infantry from Great Britain to Egypt. At the beginning of the scenario they had one Polish infantry in Norway and 3 in England. They have good attack but relativly weak defence and Allies can't build them.

Special units are new to scenario and they need much testing to get the balance right. Here is overview about them:

Axis special units:

SS Panzers - very strong and fast tank unit, they get better as time passes. At the beginning Axis has one SS Panzers unit, in December 1940 they get one more and in January 43 the third one.

Spanish Legioners - strong infantry unit, equal to Polish infantry. Axis gets three of them in July 1941 (Blue division).

Allies special units:

Polish infantry - strong infantry unit. Allies have 4 of them at beginning (in England and Norway), in both March and August 1942 they get one more in Middle-East as general Anders army.

Soviets special units:

Guard tanks - strong tank unit, get better over time, weaker than SS Panzers. First appear in November 1941.

Polish infantry - Soviets get one in July 43 as Tadeusz Kosciuszko division and 2 more in December 43 (general Berling's army).

Most special units are recreated once per season when lost (sent back to home to rest and refit after serious battle losses). If a unit is lost twice per season then it is gone forever. This rule makes special units to survive longer. Exception is Russian Guard Tanks which will not be recreated when lost (they get 2 Guard tanks every year).

Thanks Marko.
I really missed out on the diplomacy, I guess. Will have to try that.

For the special units, I guess they´re OK.
I still think that the minor nations are some pain, as they seem to be at war with everybody. Spain, Allies, me, one time even the soviets and france. But I can live with having sweden and Switzerland....:D :D :king:

OK, I´ll get to work and play some......

Sincerly, Tracid

Marko, are you playing your game on deity level?

Yes, I do. The AI is more aggressive and effective taking your cities in Deity level. In Emperor level and down it is somehow more passive.
I have balanced economies and technology rates for all nations in Deity level too. But it makes no harm to scenario experience when to play in lower difficulty level.

Hi all playtesters!

I like now to nail down the Axis version and move on to Allied and Soviet versions.

So, please speak up and answer these questions:

1. Is the scenario too difficult or too easy for you?

2. Is there anything what you didn't like and need to be changed?

3. Does it have historical atmosphere and feeling of WW2?

4. Do you like to playtest the Allied version?

1: I tried Operation Barbarossa 4 times now. I must admit that all of these tries failed horribly. I really don´t know how to do it. To kill a NKVD trooper takes at least one and a half tanks. When they attack, they kill every unit I have. The soviets build too many bombers. I had 20 Me109 at the end, but they couldn´t cope with the (confirmed) 68 bombers the soviets had built when winter came.

2: I like the units, I love the terrain, I just love the whole thingy. Really.

3: Yes.

4: Of course.

Sincerly,

I couldn't play the Axis, i got confused with all of the files and did something so i think i need to download all of the files again.
Ok here's a question, i download all of the files from CFC and then put the Axis files that you have up on the forums into the same folder, is that's all that is needed?

SunTzu:

Yes I know that it got confusing because I uploaded here a new version every time when I made some improvements to the scenario. I hoped to hold playtesters up to date with all the development but I afraid that got just opposite result.

But actually it is very simple: you need only Sound1 and Sound2 from Civfanatics database and Axis1, Axis2 and Axis3.zip from here (my post in December 27). Nothing else.

Before opening scenario, run AXIS.bat program and chose Begin new scenario. It will set up all files.
