Playtesters needed for TSFE Axis!

Marko i like the idea, that you posted just hmmm the post before your last :)
Axis can ally with French ect.....
goodie, also the yugo problem solution is good, so is the minor nations, they always attack me!
:( screws up all the plans in the region

As far as diplomacy...I'd go with either one or four. It's a little stupid in those scenarios I've had where an Axis, Allies and Soviet alliance splits Europe between them...

...and I like the ability to wipe the Minor Nations off the face of the earth, do it every game, so don't kill that option. ;)

I think that the option 4 is the best.
Now all diplomacy is free for Axis. Only limitation is that you can't speak with Allies and Soviets and stay allied with Yugoslavia until April 1941.

If you master the Civ2 diplomacy then you can get now for example tribute from Minor Nations, influence Spanish to attack Gibraltar, ally with France against British, trade techs etc.

Also, Axis is not allied with Soviets anymore and I deleted the Barbarossa event. It means that you can attack Soviet Union whenever you want or chose not to attack at all. Still, if the war has started you can't stop it until 1946.

Now I have two main questions:
Is the North Africa really hard?
How are you doing against Soviets?

North Africa is though, especially after the war in the east has started. I always take all of the french cities in north africa, while I forifiy in the east. Then I can produce enough bombers in Africa itself to start an offensive...most of the tanks still come from Europe, though. ]
After you take Malta, though, it gets much easier. To wipe out Gibraltar is also a good idea. some mines there....

Operation Barbarossa is pretty easy I think. Never lost that one.......Attacking units are around 30 mech inf, 50 to 60 Pz III and IV together with nearly 100 Sturmtruppen and SS. Air force with 40 Stukas and 50 Ju 88/He 111.
The best Strategy in my opinion is to penetrate deep with tanks and mech inf, passing by the cities and leaving them to Air attack and infantry. The AI seems to move nearly all units to the front, leaving only homguard and sometimes 2 inf units in the rear areas...then it's an easy task to take that cities.
Moscow is hard, though......takes a lot of Planes and that's the only city I ever used Artillery for in the game, no wait, used them for Leningrad as well.

North Africa is fine i think. Barbarossa is fine also :)

I'd say north africa is fine, because you shouldn't be able to crush the allies there too soon.
Barbarossa would need a little adjustment, I'd say. Maybe some kind of defense 1 sqare out of some cities. As the AI looses nearly all it's units in open field and counter-attacks, and the soviets in 2 WW did that anyway, it would slow the german advance down somewhat. Also, I think the scenario is missing a "tank killer" infantry unit, for the soviets in Barbarossa and the axis after 43.....just a thought.
Sincerly,

Don't the soviets have an anti-tank gun?
Maybe a infantry bazooka unit. Attack is doubled when attacking a unit with the movement of more than 3 or something. Cause doesn't the SS troop unit have amovement of 2?
But the infantry unit will have a VERY low defense. But could possible have a low production. so you can produce them in high numbers i guess....

Yeah, could be either like a hit and run unit like the german "bikers" or "Panzerjägers", really though, slow movement and reallz expensive.........
Sincerly,

Sorry Marko, but I haven't had the time to play this scenario past the first couple of turns.

The only things I can point out are:
* There are a few problems with shield Placement
* Tripoli is way too big. It was a fairly small city in the 40's.

And something pretty geekish: Germany starts with too many battleships. In may 1940 Germany had the two Sharnhorst Class ships, both of which had been badly damaged during the Norwegian campaign, and two ancient pre-drednaughts which would have been outclassed by a modern heavy cruiser (they were build in 1909 and were obsolete in WW1!)

did the russians have a unit like that?

Actually, no. But the russians even had anti-tank DIVISIONS! They were composed of heavy tank hunters, anti-tank guns and so on. The Anti-Tank gun is OK here, but a unit for the germans would be nice.
Sincerly,

Actually the scenario has Anti-tank infantry! :)
Check the Units8 or later units files.
It will be available from Winter 1943 on and all nations can research and build it.

Also, in Winter 1942 Russians get ISU-122 assault gun and in 1943 SU-85 tank destroyer. In 1945 it will be upgraded to SU-100.

Thank you, Case, for looking the scenario!

You are right about Tripoli. I shall make it smaller. Shields I shall correct too.

But I gave Germany only 2 battleships at the beginning of the scenario! All other battleships belong to Italian Mediterranean navy. I guess that you got more battleships because you managed to kill French battleships. There is an event which gives player new battleship if he kills ("captures") a French battleship in Summer 1940.

I worked all the weekend with the scenario and finished quite big work.
I made fortresses invisible and covered all the land with them. It means that killing a unit no longer kills a whole stack.

Slow but powerful units like artillery is now much more useful because you can move it adjacent to a city under cover of other units. Also using escort fighters for protection of bombers is more successful: if enemy manages to kill the defender, it doesn't kill automatically all the stack.

I didn't add fortresses to deserts, tundra, swamps, hills and mountains, except certain historical strongpoints. No fortresses on roads and rivers too (simulating the effect of attacking vulnerable enemy's column on road).

I hope that it adds much more fun to gameplay. :)

I shall post the new version of scenario soon. Can't believe that I'm still working with it, I started the making of TSFE in 1999

Recent changes:

1. Reworked most of the map and introduced real climate zones: no winter in Africa anymore. Also now there is special terrain for Northern Mediterranean countries.

2. Added one more nation - Turkey. There are now 8 nations in the game ;)

3. Created huge number of profitable trade links for Spain, Turkey and Minor Nations cities. Now smaller countries have strong economies and don't stay behind in technology. (Multiplayer in mind).

4. Deserts in North Africa and Arabian peninsula are now impassable - no more wandering AI units there.

5. Upgraded French army, especially in Southern France. Now it is more profitable for Axis to ally with France than to occupy it. Campaign in France can have now 3 stages for Axis: 1. Defeating French and Allied armies in North-Eastern sector; 2. Seizing lightly defended North and West-France cities; 3. Making peace/alliance with France or conquer it.

6. Barbarossa event is back. Playtested many times but Russians always sneak attacked Axis in Autumn 1940. Even setting their AI character to nonaggressive and attitude to Axis as worshipful didn't help. :(

7. Most nations have now specific city-styles. :)

I find the french resistence too hard compared to the german army.
In simple words. Its too hard for germany against France.
It should be easier.
I beleive that Paris only had a few military units in the city and they had moved nearly all of their military to the Maginot Line.

Sorry, I am new to the thread. I have 2 questions:
1) What does TSFE stand for?
2) Where can I get it? (The 10meg file sounds good!)

TSFE means The Struggle For Europe by Marko :)
Its a scenario that covers WW2 in Europe. Its very good, and difficult which makes it even better :)
You can find it here
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2scenmod2.shtml
The scenario should be there. Its 10MB, i beleive its broken down into 10 different files.
You need Winzip to unzip the files.
www.winzip.com
i think this is the URL to download Winzip.
Have fun playing it, and give you comments about the game here please :)

Who's represented by the barbarians? (meaning that the AI will be permanantly at war with them)
