I bought Civ 5 today but have been having massive problems with the graphics interface. Someone on another forum told me it was because my video card is out of date. The details are as follows:

Name: 256MB ATI Radeon X1300PRO
Chip Type: Radeon X1300 Series (0x7183)
Total memory: 256 mb

How do I fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Get a new graphics card. Your current one does not meet minimum requirements.

What card would you recommend? I don't play many games on my computer, and i would only really be buying it for Civ 5. What would be the cheapest mode that would let me do this?

Depends on what kind of expansion slot you have. The X1300Pro came in both AGP and PCIe and which one you have will determine what card (or lack of one) you can upgrade to.

You will need to actually open up the case and look at the expansion slot.

I have very poor computer skills. Is this something I should call an IT guy for, or is there simple instructions online?

Opening the case is as simple as taking out two screws and pulling the side off. However I don't recall what to look for because I've never seen an AGP port :p

But yeah using a program to tell you your specs for the motherboard (aka mainboard) is good. You'll want to have PCI-E but it might say AGP. PCI-E technology replaced AGP several years ago.

Correction, you will pretty much need to have PCIe. The only option if you have AGP is the Radeon HD4670, but those are 125$ for a 30$ GPU.
