Ok someone please please help me.

My system is more then enough to handle the game, i fear my problem is with my video card. ATI RADEON 9600, the game loads and starts to run perfectly fine. Go glitches, no errors, smooth. Then suddenly after 5 mins or so, i experience a huge problem.

My monitor just shuts off, it just goes to "off mode in 5 seconds". The computer is still on, hell my IPOD is even still charging. When this happens i have forced to rsrt my computer which is a huge hastle. Sometimes before this black screen of death comes up i get this box that says "VPU SYSTEM RECOVERY" or some odd thing. That will keep coming up sometimes and then my screen will go black, i got the latest driver for ATI and this game should be running without randomly crashing, someone please help me.

Doesn't happen outside of playing Civ?

Oh you know what... I bet it's getting too hot - is the fan on the video card working? Or maybe take some 'canned air' to it.

I bet it's working fine in Windows, then you start putting that processor to work in Civ and it gets hot. Might be wrong, but I'm betting that's it.

Another possibility is that your drivers are too new. I did a google on 'vpu system recovery' and found a match, although, for an ATI 9000, where the problem was solved by installing older drivers. YMMV.

This is getting annoying, thank you guys for your help but now it just shuts down after about 2 minutes. I dont get whats going on, how do i get old drivers? My cpu fan is working, is there a different one for the vid card? You guys are the only ppl seeming to help me, can you get back to me?

As far as drivers go did you get a driver CD when you got the graphics card? If you did then at least you'll know what driver version was current for your card. You can then either try that version or try the manufacturer's site for slightly later, but not the latest, drivers.

Most graphics cards have a fan of their own although normally fairly small. Have a close look at the card and you should be able to see it. You should be able to check the documentation for the card to see if the card actually has a fan and where it is located on the card.

If you have a dual-core processer they usually have a seperate fan to the one in the back of the pc. If you need an older nvidia driver i can upload one and most manufacturers have an archive section on their website.
