WHO'S WITH ME!?!?

lol, do you really think that Poland took the lead in the European Union's faction? The why was Paris in the video?

Or is it that you think Poland took over Russia and leads the Siberian Empire faction?

how exactly does this scenario pan out?

Oh sweet zombi J*****. I'm guessing it's a reference to all the things that's been happening before Civ 5 with all the civilization "pick us" craze? ;)

On a side note... no. Somehow I'm of the opinion that my fellow countrymen will not be interested into going to space (by the thousands). Maybe I'm biased... but I see churches filled with people just right after the "Great mistake" (which will be denied BTW :D)

Poland stronk! Poland own faciton! That's how Poland into space!

Well the Paris/Europe faction could have a Polish expedition leader
(Casimir X: duke of Poland, from the UKE faction: United Kingdom of Europe... abdicates his duchy to establish a title on another world)

I can't believe I didn't see this joke coming. :p

It's a reference to the Paradox Interactive forums. A few years ago some guy made a thread there called "Poland Cannot into Space", which I don't remember the details but I think he was basically complaining about Poland being too weak in Europa Universalis 3. His utterly broken English made it impossible to parse, and it was more amusing than anything else, so it became a meme.

Now I know! :D And now I have to search for it...

And it's all true. How did I miss it? http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/polandball. I must be getting old :/

Well, it is always the French, they could really make something different and make Poland the leader. Besides Cristo Redentor is not the biggest statue any more. Christ the King is and it is in Poland, also it has got gilded crown. In my opinion they could have spent the money to improve their science department, but there you go. It is not like Poland never held a position of importance in Europe, I do not see why they could not be powerful again. This is just how the world rolls.

Ohh and the Pokeball should be holding a Hussar lance and Karabela.

Moderator Action: Please do not troll the forums. Changed your characterization of the French to something more appropriate.

I am certain that Paris is in the trailer because it is Paris and they wanted to show the Eiffel Tower, just as Egypt (probably representing a pan-Muslim faction) is in the trailer for the Pyramids.
The obvious big guys in the EU are Germany and France, but important posts within the Union aren't given according to the size and power of one's home country. For about a decade now the President of the European Comission has been the former prime minister of Portugal of all places. That doesn't mean that Portugal has taken the lead in the EU. The representetaive of a hypothetical united Europe could very well be a Polish.
That being said, whether or not they include a Polish leader depends on how many possible leaders there will be. If there's only eight leaders for eight factions I think they'll go with a a Frenchman (or on second thought more likely a French woman), if there's sixteen or more leaders there'll probably be a Pole just for the meme.

"On this day Poland stronk! Poland can into space!"

"Did Pole remember to pack potato for Latvia?"

It's a a thing in post-soviet, quasi colonial countries. We even debate whether or not the canonization day of the late Pope should be a day off. You can imagine how the conversation goes ;) It's really hard to image that my country was a big local player...

wow... way to burn yourself! dont be so hard on yourself, every country has it's morons and moronic eras. Hard to believe the italians who can't even get a budget straight nowadays ruled all of europe, hard to believe the french produced Napoleon, hard to believe the americans are still a super power when you look at their reality tv!

Poland-Lithuania Commenwealth had their moment more than just locally!

ofcourse you could say it was more Lithuanian empire than Polish empire... :mischief:

You should buy a history book... :)

Picture this;
The armies of Europe is on the brink of disaster. Vienna is about to be overrun by Ottoman muslim hordes, and if Vienna falls, the road to conquer Europe will be wide open. We are faced with the end of western civilization.
When everything looks grim and about to end in disaster, your polish king John III Sobieski with his winged hussars shows up in the last minute, makes the largest cavalry charge in human history (thats right, google it) and crushes the Ottoman army so bad the Ottomans kill their own commander out of shame.

Sounds like a Lord of the Rings movie scene? Its not. Its well documented history.

Im not polish, but I dont have to be; Everybody loves underdogs that wins the day. :goodjob:

I figured there might be a west and a east European faction, lead by Germany/France and Poland. East faction might also include some Baltic countries.

A lot of battles involving Hussars were fought with armies about three times bigger and still won, but forget the military prowess. Poland had unique political system, unthinkable in other countries at the time - Golden Liberty. They had groundbreaking scientists and very unique culture, even though it is a central European country. Their administrative language was Latin, that is how close they were with Rome, not to mention other Italian states. Jews from west and Armenians, Ottoman refugees, Tatar sought asylum in the Commonwealth, there was more of them of course. A third of the population was not Polish. What I am trying to say is that there is no needs to brag about being the most extensive borders or richest magnates.

Germany was an economical ruin after WWI, yet they surprised Europe with their swiftness and organisation. They lost another war. And now they are back to being one of the most productive countries in the world. However during Thirty Years' War German states were in complete ruin. Absolute disaster. I do not see why Poland could not pick up the pace in say 50 years and become a super power, whether by expanding borders or pulling strings.

I would like to see Poland in CBE, but there are other interesting nations. And for gods sake it is all in the fictional future. Imagine this, with time France and Germany change into radical Muslim states, which unite with all Muslim countries so we have an empire in Western Europe, Arabia and Close East. In response to that, Poland recreated the Commonwealth, becoming the senior partner they gained so much power that they decided to take over Northern Europe and most of Russia. Swedes and Norwegians evacuate / migrate to the North Pole where they connect and build a new nation from scratch. British islands were flooded destroyed or whatever, same goes for US. This creates power vacuum, now Canada allied with leftovers of US are in conflict with Australia over the control held by British monarchs, including control over each other. This gives us United Muslim Empire, Polish Commonwealth, Northern Norwedish Republic, Canadian Alliance, Australia. There is so much potential! There is absolutely no reason to recreate factions which we already have in ciV under different names.

Polish history is indeed pretty awesome, but Golden Liberty wasn't really something to be proud of. It was a complete disaster that pretty much single-handed doomed the Commonwealth.

That is debatable. I believe Golden Liberty was indeed golden, and it was the Liberum Veto itself which caused the downfall or the Rokoszes.

I'm very surprised.

Of course, everyone knows Vienna is the only place the Ottomans can be stopped. And the Balkans don't really count as Europe do they :P So we can just pretend like Europe wasn't already open to the Ottomans.

Poland is great and all, but if we're gunna go Eastern Europe crazy, I really honestly would rather have space Dracula. Wallachia can into space too, fangs you very much.

This is of course, science fantasy rather than even science fiction, since the population of Eastern Europe in particular is set to almost half in the next 100 years alone. And if there's anything we've learnt from Civ V, it's that :c5citizen:=:c5science:. So Poland can't really even into hot air balloon.
