What difficulty setting will you choose for your fist Civ6 game, relative to Civ5? (Not counting the tutorial, if you plan to play that first.) Now that the AI is supposed to be smarter, barbs more proactive, and with brand new systems in the game, I am debating whether to bring down the difficulty one notch or two notches.. curious to hear what others think. I designed the poll to be relative to Civ5; e.g. I play Immortal on Civ5 and likely to play 2 levels below when I start Civ6. (corresponds to King I think) Assume Civ6 has same # of difficulty levels as Civ5.

Settler of Chieftain, though I'll likely not finish the game once I've gotten my bearings.

I think it's sensible to play a new game first on no harder than the "normal" level to see what the AI can do without cheating.

It's like putting salt on food before you taste it... even if you know you're going to want it saltier, it's disrespectful not to at least try it the way the chef prepared it. :D

Agreed,

I just know I want to immerse myself for my first game, I'll play as China for the Wonder bonuses and play as all the other civs (I might even plop a second China for the Leaderhead)

Additionaly, I'll need to re-learn strategies anyway so playing it on Prince would probably get me swamped.

Or maybe it's like pushing a race car to its limits to test drive it* even though you'll drive slower if need be.

I'll just play a level below what I've been playing - emperor rather than immortal (my typical in Civ V although I've played deity when I played more frequently), since that seems "normal" to me even if it's not balanced.

* I've never actually driven a race car. So this analogy might be poor.

Probably Noble for the most fair game and if I get my ass kicked I'll drop to Warlord. But I refuse to go any lower than that out of pride :D

This game, which won't be out for four more months, probably has a busier forum than any other game you can name.

Interesting. Civ really is the 800 pound gorilla of the PC game world.

I couldn't say right now, I'll know when I'm at the main menu setting up the game!

If i had to pick, probably Emperor or Immortal.

I'll probably start off at King level. I can't see jumping into a new Civ game with new mechanics and such at the same difficulty I can play at now (Immortal). After the first game, I'll know how to adjust from there.

Ill go Normal or one level below. Yes this forum is very active right now and it is a treasure trove of good information that is actually more up to date than the forums at Firaxis.

I voted one lower than normal but it is a good suggestion to try on normal first to see the AI in its normal state.

Deity, and I hope I get stomped.

+1. Non-Deity wins don't count for me, and I'll beat Deity quicker by learning the game at this level.

I put "the same" in the poll, which is usually king or emperor but upon reflection, will likely play game one at Prince.

Given that I played Civ V on Immortal, and will first try Civ VI at either normal or one level below normal (Prince or Chieftain) I voted three+ levels below.

Most likely normal for my first game or two until I can get a feel for the mechanics and how the AI handles. Then I'll probably play a game or two on hard, then very hard for a while. I'll most likely play several games like that before I tackle the top difficulties.

I'll try it on normal for the first game.
