Poll: Which Civ?

So I take it we're agreed on the following:

#1 Ottomans
#2 Iroquois
#3 Japan
#4 France
#5 Dutch

It would be a nice idea for anyone who wishes to break the democracy we have been conducting to do so now; note that since chances are someone will pick iroquois first, we probably will end up with either the Turks or the Japs.

OK, now that we have determined that we will use the Civ3 MTDG I style of civilization selection, let's do just that.

UN Representatives, please copy this post into your forums so that your team members can discuss the following:

As a team, decide on the top 5 civilizations you would like to be. Order them, by order of preference with #1 being most preferred and #5 being least preferred out of those 5 choices. Send them via PRIVATE MESSAGE to RegentMan and Ginger_Ale (both).

We will then assign civilizations based on your lists, and use a RNG in the case of a tie for a certain civilization.

It would be nice if you could get this done by around the weekend, but this is probably one of the most important things to discuss, so make sure you weigh your options carefully!

I mostly agree with the rest of you except that I voted for China rather than Dutch. Industrious is a great trait and riders with their 3 movement last so much longer than other knight types.

This poll doesn't really choose the priority order, because we can't make ranked choices. I think we should take the top 6-7 choices and have everyone post an ordered list after we know what kind of map -- and allow writeins if the map choice changes your civ choice.

However, if the majority likes the status quo, no problem. We should be able to use any of these civs traits.

Agreed DS.. I think that everyone will be happy with these choices on any map. The preferred order might change once we know the map type.

So we'll wait until that is decided and then rank the 5 civs indivually and compile that into an ordered list for our team

I'll send the PM to GA & RM once this is decided. Actually I'll send them a PM now to see if this could wait until the map is decided

There is a few clear choices there. GA and RM have stated we can change the order if the map type is not what we expected. We could always do a list for pang and archi at the same time.

I think Archi brings up dutch as huge favorites, along with Carthage (IND), England (COM+MoW), Viks (MIL+Zerk) and Byz (SCI+Drom). I wouldn't be surprised if these actually were the 5 picks on archi.

OTOH the rarity of rivers would make me lean towards non-agr and COM/SCI types, such as Romans and Turks.

From what i've been reading, if it comes to teams vote i think a pangea map will be picked, but we should keep an Archi map civ in mind. For me nothing beats the Dromon, its comes out early and is useful up to frigates. The ability to bombard is huge that early in the game imho
