A problem I have with the Communitu map is the fact it most often connects the main landmass to the ice cap.
Water between them would be better, at least to reduce the amount of ice.
It creates another problem of making the polar regions better than subpolar regions for settle. And a 1-tile water passage with only one side of land just sucks for war.

But that area would be mostly tundra, some water would hardly make it better than plains or grasslands.

Milae's Map, perfect aside from the tendency to bunch up all the mountains on one region
Tectonics-IV, usually makes great shapes but tends to bunch up civs in one island when there's plenty of vacant land on other places

Yeah this always irritated me about the Communitu map.

Recently switched over to using Milae's map as others have suggested, and one of the benefits it has over the regular Communitu map is it seems to always keep a small passage of water around the poles.

That's a bad feature of the original Communitas map. It makes snow almost non-existent and makes very defensive city spots that also have great yields (tundra hills > grass/plains hills after caravansary, and flat/featured tundra isn't much worse + you get a ton of fish).

Our group doesn't really like snow anyway, and I don't think we've ever had issues with someone having too good a position in tundra. Milae's map prevents players from being totally locked out of sea access, which was especially annoying when playing a naval focused civ and it spawned you on a 'fake' coastal start, whereby it would be just a few tiles of coast surrounded by ice. I also just find it to be more aesthetically pleasing.

Ultimately it's all personal preference though. For instance, I modified both Communitu and Milae's to be a fair bit smaller, as that seems to be more fun for multiplayer. Spending 20 turns marching armies across the map later game can become rather obnoxious!

Communitu_79a features ZERO inland seas including those surrounded by ice. They're either filled up, turned into lakes, or (for bigger ones) connected to the ocean.

Perhaps I'm mixing it up with a different map script or version. Either way I think Milae's map generation works better for our group. I like my global warming induced polar sea passages.
