Pop vs. Soda

My family is from Massechussets and New Hampshire, so they all call it "soda," but Ohio has influenced me to say "pop."

At first I thought that map was fake (how could a pollster go through all that trouble?), but it certainly seems accurate.

Its the Old South .

I guess so. Guess we gotta wait for someone from Alabama to respond here.
Hey, that's me!

Yes, the generic word tends to be "coke" down here. Obviously no one would consciously call a Sprite a "coke," but you might hear, "Would you like a coke?" And, "Sure, a Sprite, please" would be an acceptable answer.

"Soda" is also common, though. Now as for "pop," if you say that around here you'll probably get a bunch of blank stares, or possibly laughed at, or both.

Or a "y'all ain't from 'round here..."

:)

I say soda, even though I'm apparently supposed to be saying pop

EDIT: Just read your sig... glad to see a Buck 65 fan! :D
Go ahead and laugh, Pepsi is king! :king:

Buck 65 is great! A white guy from Nova Scotia rapping about roses, baseball or his grieving father. What's not to love?

Pop. Soda is used around here to mean pop thats not cola, root beer, or Dr. Pepper.

Only Southern Degenerates use "Coke." ;)

Soda for me. Except for soda crackers. Those are crackers.

Pop is a sound.

Soda is a drink.

Pop is more like those old Pop Rox that I remember in the early 90s.

Pop, as in "pop a top". It hearkens back to the nostalgic yesteryear days of the golden age of soft drinks. POP, dag nabbit, pop!

Any of you notice how most of the states that call soda "soda" are blue states? I wonder what inspired that one.

It seems our Yankee friend is colorblind; soda states are gold states, and I believe we should use "soda" and "pop," and NOT "Democrat" and "Republican" to determine our next president.

;)

I call it a lot of things. I don't drink much anyway.

The panzy-ass coastal states call it "Soda" because they view "Pop" as violent and agressive. The Southerners call it "coke" because they are too uneducated to know the real word. Midwesterners (except the lamo Milwash rabble) and Northwesterners call it "pop" because it's fun and intimidates the pathetic Coast folks.

:ninja:

Them's fightin' words! You best be fixin' to duel at high noon!

Coke and soft drinks are one and the same; try finding a place in Atlanta that serves Pepsi!

For the record, I found such a place downtown.

Technically, however, I live in a region of Oregon that statistically calls it pop.
