Populous the Beginning vs Age of Empires II the Age of Kings; THE ETERNAL STRUGGLE!

Populous the Beginning was made in 1998 and Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings was made in 1999, but they're still popular. They've developed some kind of battle against each other. My question is: Which game is the best in your opinion?

Age of empires 2 was way better. And in my opinion it is the greatest strategy game of all time. RTS anyway.

Turn based would be civ3 of course.

Age of Empires 2 is among the few RTS games I loved, and still play. Hell, I rebought it for something like the third time recently (it has a dastardly habit of getting lost during moving houses) and am playing it again

Theya re both great games. The problem with populous is that it gets pretty repetitive. No diversity.

Age of Empires was, is, and will always be the greatest.

It was never popular.

I didn't play Populous much - i tried it, but it had a strange feel to it.
I played AoE1&2 a lot. AoE2 campaigns were great.

I'm quite reluctant to try AoE3 as it presents one of the parts of history which i despise, and in one of the geographical regions that i don't like.

You said it yourself - some die-hard fans. All games have die-hard fans - even the terrible ones.
Making/having a sequel doesn't mean a game is popular - it either means that it didn't suck, or someone has a lot of money.
