Interesting way to replace stars... I like it though not ALL promo icons hold true to the gold so we'd have to adapt those that don't such that the gold layer is more prominent so it could be adapted to this method. Examples of those may be found among the First Aid lines I think.

We often have more than 4 tiers too... consider some of our promotionlines extend up to 10 layers so we'd really need to plot out a full 10 color categories to achieve this. Either that or work with a set of 5 or 6 and then add a symbol that universally means we're onto the second set of 5 or 6.

Good point. Sadly, since color transmits itself into meaning for me so easily I rarely give this factor any consideration. But since you brought it up, it reminds me that even our master programmer Koshling has this issue and would most likely prefer we don't go this route. I'd say its best we didn't then. Shouldn't make it very difficult with the background meanings though as their message is of lesser importance really.

Maybe a star with a roman numeral inside representing what tier of that promotion it is?

Id say normal numbers but I think roman numerals are more stylish, but thats me lol.

Try to make a combat class button that looks like the other ones in the classic blue and gold style. We can see how you do with that and go from there.

I don't know if any of you has noticed this, but here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=512851 there are several hundred icons that could be used for buildings/units/techs for transhuman and galactic era
