From watching the latest vids I think it’s going to take a tough semi isolation situation or that mao map to give lain a challenge

Well, the starting area is not very good and Saladin is a weak leader. Also, early turns are interesting, I guess? Certainly not SIP for me, tons of useless coast and zero blocking value.

Hard to imagine that map being a challenge from the initial screenshot. Strong leader, strong starting area. I do understand it was hard for people 7 years ago.

Why it's worth playing? Well, I'm not promising anything, but it should be a map that offers up some interesting choices as far as how to approach things. "Should". Like I said, not promising anything.

Didn’t look at that map but I do agree these make this a more challenging map than sally one

Yes, my idea is that it could perhaps be a fun challenge, since there is all the pieces available for strong play, you have all the things you need but the odds are still stacked against you.

Marble, iron, horses, room for 6 cities, good leader, good start...

I think this map was one of the last maps I played before my long hiatus, tried to replay it now but I struggle at immortal.

Yes, looking at some screenshots later in the thread we have room for 6 very good cities and semi-isolation with a leader who doesn't plot at pleased. Even a mediocre deity player like me has won a map like that. It's all about empire build up, get a military advantage and then take more cities with force. The annoying part (at least for me) is that after that the game is really boring. It's in the bag, but you need to win it, which will take many hours. If Lain wants to go for a space victory maybe this is the map to show it.

How to handle runaway AI(s) on other continent was already shown in the Wang Kon map.

Only the ivory saved this map from being very hard. Even as it was, not an easy map at all as you are forced to elepult and everything depends on how the war goes. Very low city count and behind in tech by 1AD.

Yup give Lain credit, Sally map can easily go wrong.

Not sure what i miss on the Rags map, but i see no Cyrus there just full Isolation ~~

Krikav was talking about the Peter map. The Rags map is semi-iso.

Although you need either Optics or a unit with Sentry (2 promo boat or a 4 promo Scout - good luck with that one!) standing on the very North-Western tip of your land/coast in order to make early contact. Said contact's city also must have at least 500, but that's definitely the easy part.

Not I'm quite sure that the Peter map will just be boring!

But CR2 Grenadiers with Amphi might be cool in a Ragnar isolation . Maybe try something different than cannons if it works out. Also, my win rate for isolation is not as good as people might think, I sometimes lose even with good land~

I am rather strict on my definition of iso/semi-iso/non-iso, I admit. But I figure it's better to be strict

than to call a map full iso when it's a 5 XP boat away from making contact. Sure, it's not something that you can easily/consistently get, but if iso can be broken before Astronomy than I can't call it a full iso map. Admittedly "iso until Optics" is kinda...irrelevant, but I happen to draw the line at Astro and not at Optics, so...
