Post Short Single Player Tips Here

I think those are good suggestions!

I would offer these comments:

1. If you can pre-build ToE (without giving up too many settlers or other units), or you get an SGL, you're 100% right.

2. IIRC, the workers in Republic work as fast as under Democracy (after getting RP), so I don't spend the time researching the optional Democracy Tech. The Anarchy process, AFAIK, is not reduced at Chieftain level.......and I'm using a non-religious Civ.....Maya. :)

Well, you can't beat ind+agr wrt the kind of games you're playing EMan.

And don't expext any competition from me - 400 cities! No way!

;)

I second that thought, I find 100 cities, with 70 being specialist farms quite exhausting. Cleaning pollution in the industrial and modern ages is a pain, I understand the push toward Ecology.

I have one question about the opening of the game. How the AI manages to build second city(first after the capital) on the fifth turn of the game !?!? And then build their third city when i build my second. Is there something wrong with my opening turns or ?

Could be an exp civ popping a free town or a settler.

At higher levels the AIs starts with more than one settler. Turn 5 sounds perfectly allright for the establishment of a second city.

You can't! But the AI can.

I dunno if you can spam a settler/town (given exp) at that level. The chances diminish as you move up. Mostly map-of-region or gold.

Yes, you can pop a settler from a hut and build city 2 in 3950 BC even.
The AIs build a second town on Demi-God and Deity (and Sid, although that's usually 2 towns) around 3800 BCE, because they have a free settler.

And the first town will likely start work on the third settler right away. I think it might be practically impossible though for the AI to pop a settler from a goody hut, as there must not be either active settlers or settlers being built - which is extremely unlikely.

Pretty sure I caught Russia popping a town or a settler from a hut on a Chieftain level game I played recently. That might happen very rarely though.

Isolationist policy works !! which means minimum contact with the opponents. This is how it works, maximize science, preferably pick a civilization with scientific/industrious specialties, build a strong but defensive army, keep your citizens happy with city improvements, stay away from diplomacy and wars as much as you can, defend your borders well, all your focus will be building the space program, I succeded with this policy in civ 3 and previously with Alpha Centauri...It is a peaceful policy as well, it works well with Ottomans and Persians, and in Alpha Centauri Gaians and the University (Zakharov)

Is it just me, or is the Statue of Zeus an overpowered wonder? I find if I hook up Ivory early (got to find it) and build it early I get a superior army by the time I finish the ancient age and can just do what I want. I don't even need a war government.

The ancient cavalry is basically a Celtic Swordsman with an extra hitpoint, right?

I dont think its overpowered. Its only powerful if you get ivory early enough. By the time most civs get mathamatics and ivory, many people already have iron, and therefore, swordsman.

And, yes. They are like gallic swordsmen with one extra HP.

You can only get 1 AC every 5 turns for 200 shields.. You can train more units in other cities at about the same time. So, I don't think the Statue of Zeus overpowered for a militaristic game. It might work out as overpowered in a 20k game though.

I don't think it's overpowered either. You must have a special resource to build it and of course there is always the aspect that Spoonwood mentioned - you can build plenty units for 200 shields, e.g. 6 (almost 7) swords at the same cost before you even start producing ACs. The extra HP is quite nifty though.

True, but once it IS built you can build units and at the same time receive ACs every 5 turns, and if the city has decent corruption and a barracks you can easily churn out a close-to-unbeatable army. Additionally, for the AI it is an OP'ed wonder because whichever civ gets it will likely be more aggressive than they normally would be, leading to the emergence of a superpower civ quite early on in the game.

If you're on a pangaea map, be wary about the strongest country threatening you when they're across the map. If they declare war on you, and it goes on and on, they will likely send troops to take some of your cities. It's annoying fighting a war on a country that's to the south of you and suddenly having 2 cities on the north being taken by the country you declared war on 30 turns ago because you don't want to give them free tech.
