Pounder's Completely Redone Railroads

lol what a post :) bla bla bla, these look terrible, bla bla bla, keep up the good work lol, if you think they look so bad, then what good work do you speak of? lol

im sorry? what? you only want positive comments?

great idea...........

anyone with the time to make mods for games is making good work... just because i dont like it doesnt make it crap work...far from it.

I'm i never thought of it from that perspective, I just thought it was kind of odd that you went from hateing it to calling it good work. No need to fight over it, just the way I see it.

Downloaded and used! They're very nice! The scattered buildings give the impression of pockets of urbanisation in between the cities, which is cool. Stops tha map appearing so empty.

A possible thought for Civ4 perhaps? Something (eg a small building / farm) on the main map to show that a tile is being used by the city. It will give the impression that the cities suburbs are spreading out as the city grows as opposed to one condensed mass of building at the city core. (Will add this idea to Civ4 Proposals thread).

I know that I posted the last version saying it was the final. At the time I just didn't want to spend any more time on them.

Well I have been tweaking and adding. I have made changes to many tiles, especially on the railroad portion, getting more bends and curves. Have also added a stadium.

Attached is a copy of the file, you will have to re-name it to 'railroads.pcx' (after you unzip it) and place it in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Terrain

Be sure to backup your existing railroads file in case you ever decide to change back.

Version V4.00 V.4.10 Lighter is next post

This is Version 4:

I still wasn't happy with the colours, I changed the colour of the railway ties and I also lightened the rails and the road shoulders.

I will leave both versions posted as tastes may vary.

There are two different patterns interlaced, one for the paved roads and one for the railroads.

Not all railways go on for ever, especially within a city where you may have a public transit line that only goes 20 or thirty miles.

The screen shot only shows a small sample.

Here is another small sample.

Could you tell me where did you downloaded these borders?

More cool work Pounder. I think I'll go with the lighter version.

cool thanks Pounder.

It seems that you, EuroYank, have some grudge against cfc because of the removal of your picture posts at the unit library -thread in units-subforum (IIRC that was you who posted them). Just chill and relax, and everything will work out just fine.

Pounder:

A quick thankyou for the effort put into this.

Did you or anyone you know every do doubletrack railroads? I've been searching for something like this and have yet to find it.

Thanks

I would think that doubletrack railroads would be a challenge as there is a limit of about 6 pixel in width where the tiles meet in the North South East and West corners of the tiles.

My current rails are 6 pixels wide including the rail ties. The actual rails are only 4 pixels wide.

Trying to get a double set of rails would be possible on the diagonal sides of the tiles as there would be no limitations going northeast southwest southeast northwest.

Something to consider.
