PowerBar Training Utility

Lurker, you should try making a new game and see if it still does the same thing. Maybe you did something the engine didnt like...

And I think you'd have to have the source code for the program even if you were a programmer to know what the internal problem is ;)

Ok, I definately found out what the problem was. I was correct when I said that it was because a city had it's region outside of the visible map.

When I decreased the culture and the region of all the cities were inside the visible map I didn't get the error anymore.

So there you have it. The trainer doesn't like it when you try building "H" highways in areas it can't see.

Zenos - you're getting that 'barbarian settler' problem along with the 'cannot apply filter' along with vanilla civ - at this point, I only play Conquests, and I DON'T get the error.

You're definitely experiencing a bug, since there are no such thing as 'barbarian settlers' - it's probably one of those things where the 'offsets' were changed slightly with the last vanilla civ 3 patch, so PowerBar is accessing some wrong information from memory and trying to interpret it as unit #0000, tribe barbarian, and unit type settler. I'm sure NexusHyper can find and fix the problem IF YOU SEND HIM A SAVED GAME WHERE YOU'RE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM.

Lurker501 - your problem where a city border extends beyond the map boundaries and you get 'subscript out of range' is something Nexushyper is aware of, and he has a saved game file to work with to debug the problem - so I assume he'll get that one solved when he has the time.

Hmm, and I still have no solution. FOr some odd reason when a city is built near the edge of teh map PB will have issues since the tiles it is looking for to get info off of are outside the map region. Not sure how to fix this yet but I will keep looking into it. As for problems with "H" not wanting to work with unexplored areas is new to me. Unless I am misreading you and you mean outside the visible map as in outsdie the playable area of the map (I.E. the north south borders) I will defintely look into the highway code again though.

As for barbarian settlers, I have yet to experience this on this scale that you meantion. I do know the following; 1) if you load one of the 7 Conquest scenarios you will get tons of barbarian settler on that screen. 2) If you kill a unit this erases the memory of that unit, however I have noticed on occasions that Civ 3 leaves a 'trace' of that unit in memory. That is it leaves the point to the section of memory that that unit used to be at, however, there is no longer unit if at that location and thus PowerBar reads that as a barbarian settler (It does this in order not to crash, else it would crash and one of teh pervious coders made PB list unknown units as barbarian settlers. A little bit more on this, each unit has a code associated to it and PowerBar extracts all this info as well as teh unit name etc with that number.. very complex, all takes place when you press LOAD). Thus I believe the "Barbarian settler" is in part a Civ 3 bug with leaving points to 'dead' units. (granted I might be able to work around this with a different name but you get the point)

"Unable to apply selected filter" I haven't gotten this yet not sure what sets it off entirely. I do know that if you start anew game and load powerbar without running atleast one turn, you will get this error. Sometimes you will get this error if you load a saved game and then load powerbar without running any turns. I also know you can just get them whenever. The whenever ones I attribute to PowerBar being a memory trainer and Civ 3 having memory leaks such as the points to 'dead' units. There is a chance, and a saved game would help, but I think a bug or memory leak in Civ 3 is the problem here. Then again, it is happening so much that it could just be a PowerBar glicth. I can't tell for sure as I only get this error if I don't let PowerBar run atleast one turn. If I do that I never get it!

I know this doesn't help alot, but should give some guidance and perhaps can help you help me by looking for these condtions and report results to me. Here's what I need:
1) a saved game of when the error, barbarian settler, etc happens.
2) what you were doing when it happen (I.E. I'm looking for a trigger, did you just do a whole bunch of things with PowerBar in a short period, what buttons did you press previous if you can remember.)
3) game version and patch to include Gold edition (as Gold edition and teh other new 3 set combo may have different offset which could be the cause)
4) a screen shot (press the Print Screen key and then after you close Civ 3 open paint and paste it there, save it and e-mail it to me)
5) all the above in an e-mail. I may not respond right away but I will take teh info and when I have time I will research it and make a report to you and on here.

Thanks!!

i am running version 4.1.5E of the powerbar and version 1.29f of Civ 3
when i click on the units button i get an error message "unable to apply selected filter"
if i open the info window and click on the units tab i get the error message " Run-time error '9' subscript out of range" and then it crashes the PB

any ideas or segustions on how to fix this?

Nexus, I just wanted to say, Wicked Program and thanks for all the hard work you have been doing. :goodjob:

You can send me a saved game to my e-mail and I'll look at it. If you read a couple posts up by me, I talk about it briefly.

Basically I have yet to incounter this, however, I am hoping a saved game will shed light on the bug. :):)

Thanks, I have sent you the file, and yes i have tried all the tips that have been posted. hope you have better luck.

For all those who have trouble with the unit button not being able to "apply the filter" problems, i've searched previous posts and found that the old version seems to work for me.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/PowerBar35beta.zip

EDIT: oops forgot to add, i've got the 1.29f patch installed. Just the original, not conquest or PTW.

Also the 3.6 Beta didn't work with the unit button, same with the latest version 4.1 Rev 5.

So... Any progress on changing the date? :D
I'm playin a great game, and it just told me I only have twenty turnes left... I kinda just wanna play till I think I'm finished tho... I don't like inatimate objects dictating what I do... Is it just me?!
Anyways, I just wanna change the date back to 4000bc...
Does anyone know any way to do this through PB or any other editor aside from C3MT (cause it won't work for me)?

Shabbabaram, you can change the date - the 'current' date - with CCJ39's Megatrainer. Here's the thread in this forum: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=40769&page=6

This program lets you change the 'current date' back one turn by pressing ALT+F4; you can press it multiple times and even back the current date back to 4000BC, giving you 540 more turns to play.

Thank ya ma'am

I have the 4.2.6 beta.
And this thread says that the 4.1.5 is the lastest.
So, which one is the lastest?

Actually Mega Trainer is ver 1.2.2.0 released August 29 2004

A most excellant "ulility" ;)

I didn't know a 4.2.6 was released, but if it was, it is an old version as the one listed, 4.1.5, is the latest and 4.2.6 is old due to teh fact that is using an old number scheme. I re-numbered and did not think I had 4.2.6 up long enough (hours) to be downloaded, and replaced it with 4.0.something.... 4.1.5 is newest.

I've tried using the latest version of PowerBar with Civ3 Complete, and it does not appear to work.
I followed the instructions, started a game and clicked load. Nothing happens, hangs at "Loading..."

Perhaps I am simply doing something wrong... Can anyone verify if this works or not with Civ3 Complete? If not, any chance of a version being made for Civ3 Complete?

The first page states the versions PowerBar works with. If it is not listed is does not work with it!

It does not work with unlisted version simply because I have not bought those versions and thus can not make a working version of a memory trainer without the version I need teh memory of. Sorry, I'm just not made of money and can't go out and buy all these various versions of the same game.

The Complete version of the game clearly states that it is version 1.22, and the latest version of PowerBar is said to work with 1.22, which is why I asked if anyone could verify if it does or does not work with Complete.
I have even tried downloading the 1.22 patch and applying it to a seperate install of the game, then running the trainer. No luck.

Regardless, I no longer need this program, as the C3MT saved game editor works just fine.

The "Complete" version of the game is simply a marketing ploy. It's a 3 CD set consisting of Civ3, PTW, C3C. If you're playing with 1.22 version of C3C then PB is compatable.

Cheers CS

I see. Then why, I wonder, does it not work?
Each time I've tried, it has either been as soon as my first city has been built, or a few turns later.
Should I wait longer before clicking load?
