PR01 An OCC Diplomatic Excursion

Yeah, whatever dude.

No pics ~ tried windowed mode but it stinks. Nothing too much happened. I MM'd the city a bit to work the cottages and took off specialists in the hopes to generate an Engineer. Since you're too afraid to playthe game to the end, I guess you'll have to follow my lead . . . just like the bosox, always a step behind the crankees.

So, anyway, working cottages to get them growing up to full size and once the forge was done, i put an eng. to work. I also built a missionary to spread ot the souther ex-barb city that Monty took. (the chinese took the city to the north.) Started to build the Globe theatre to end happiness. Don't OCC's have nat'l wonder limitations lifted??

Don't OCC's have nat'l wonder limitations lifted??

Correct. More than 2 national wonders are allowed. Plus you can build Oxford Uni with only one university and Globe with only one theater.

Not afraid to play. Just wanted to wait until I had the time to not half-ass the report the way you did. Now that's just like the Red Sox.

Re Trip to Melbourne: You owe me A$7.45 for the train ticket.

And you owe me $200 for keeping your girlfriend in at least someone's thoughts these past few nights.

"Paul, come to bed with me."

"Okay, one more turn."

Got it, btw, I'll play later on today.

Edit: today, of course, being a +- 28.5 hours type of thing. Sorry, I got mired in an unexpected tech support call that lasted about 5 hours. That was when I was planning to play this SG. Now I've got to pick up the kids and make sure they don't die until about 8:30.

I used to think it was just other people's kids who suck. Now I realize it's mine too.

, I got mired in an unexpected tech support call that lasted about 5 hours.
read: "I was trying on women's clothing and lost track of time b/c i look so pretty."

Tell me about it! Your sister's panties are a little tight, but damn I look good in a G-String. Just ask her.

Oh, and I'm now playing. Pholk's gonna kill me, but ...we'll I'll leave it for the write-up.

Inherited turn

Judging by pholk's last write-up, I think my first call will be to whip some screenshots. <rim_shot />

No MM. We're stagnant at pop 12 mainly because we have -4 food due to health problems. I could turn off the one engineer we're running, but Pholk seems to have a plan. Pop 12 it is!

Press enter.

IBT

Sylvester Stalone wants us to war with America.

ad1310_monte.jpg

When did Roosevelt get so angry with us that he refuses to talk? Damn. Oh well, we're not going to win the diplo by trying to make everyone happy, are we? As weird as it sounds, Napoleon (+7) and Monte (+6) are our two best friends. Even stranger, they both like each other a lot. This is the oddest triangle diplomacy I've ever had.

So anyway, Pholk's going to kill me. Worse, he'll think I'm trying to suicide this game. I really think that our only shot at this variant is through the mutual military struggle bonus Monte will share. If we can get Nappy to join in the fun...??? Maybe they'll both grab some good population from FDickR and vote us into the winner's circle.

Let's hope our 6 or so archers can hold out, huh?

Holding my breath over the insane tech lead America has over us, I press the button...

ad1310_war.jpg

Turn 1

A very well-timed series of screams in my headphones tells me that Washington has been sacked by the Aztecs. Woo Hoo! I tried to bring Nappy into the frey, but we don't have enough bribery. Oh well. Further checks of the trade screens show that absolutely no one is willing to trade anything to us.

Lastly, Monte's keeping America off of our backs but, from what I can tell, he doesn't have a lot of troops on American soil. Just to be safe, I'll move our lone worker out of the way.

Hit enter

IBT

Mao offers open borders and I accept.

ad1320_mao.jpg

God, I can't stop staring at that mole/wart/tumor/zit on his chin. I had that same problem with that jigsaw-puzzle piece on Gorbachev's head.

Turn 2

:coffee:

IBT

ad1330_medi.jpg

How bad is it that we enter the Medieval period in 1330 AD? I'm really tempted to open world builder and see if we're actually dumber than the barbarians.

Turn 3

ad1330_machinery.jpg

Machinery => Feudalism for longbows.

Turn 4

Our war-zone-evacuee worker arrives on our NE rice patty and begins farming. Maybe we can trade the extra rice for a health bonus.

Turn 5

Roosey's brought some troops to within panick distance but a quick scan shows a settler with the mace. I'm guessing he's not aiming for lil ol Mecca.

ad1350_settler.jpg

IBT

An American worker scurying across our our northern territory helps me realize that Roosey's got a city up there (San Francisco). Maybe our rice patty isn't the safest place for our worker...

Turn 6

Globe Theater (no more happy issues) => Hanging Gardens. WTH, right?

Hey, here's a thought. How screwed will we be when Montezuma captures the Christian holy city? Might he actually raze it if it's really far from his territory? I doubt it.

IBT

As if on cue, Valley Girls run screaming from their Starbucks as Monte takes Los Angeles. He promptly creates the world's biggest bonfire of the vanities and the smoldering glow from what used to be LA can almost be seen from Mecca. America is still the Christian capital, so wrong city.

Turn 7

:coffee:

Turn 8

I see a few Americans move near us but, by the time it's actually my turn, those troops are replaced by wounded Aztec horse archers.

Turn 9

:coffee:

IBT

Mao offers to not crush us with chucks for 150 gold.

ad1400_mao.jpg

Gladly. That's a cheap +1 modifier, I say. This is the advantage to having nothing. The stupid demands are usually to your advantage.

Turn 10

Nothing really. Nappy still won't go to war on our account. Bummer. Anyway, that's the end. A quick scan of the demo screen shows that we're actually not last in hammers. Looks like Roosey's on the way out.

Anyhow, thoughts?

Ruler of the Knuckleheads!

This time around, the turnlog got lost in 161-turnlog limbo . . . but nothing much happened of interest. I MM'd a bit to get starvation to get Gardens a turn earlier = 6 turns.
civ4screenshot00382cg.jpg

Notice the red circles? Monty is now #1 in pop. What to do, what to do?? Perhaps now ally ourselves w/a Chinese-Nappy-alliance?? Now I have no freakin' clue what our future holds here in this game ~ oh wait, our future's been in doubt since Rex's first turns.

Oh, and by the way, we lost the Gardens race . . . another one bites the dust. I also finished Feudalism and headed towards Civil Service, w/an eye towards a Assembly Line beeline. I also built the Heroic Epic and the National Epic is almost done.

Here's a shot of Monty's army using our land as a launching pad for his invasion, thanks to the road i hooked up to him a set or two back.
civ4screenshot00404oz.jpg

These units would all die, I think, b/c one turn they were around a city, and the next turn, they weren't.

We also lose two archers against a Horse Archer who is pillaging our lands. They both had first strike promotions so I was hoping to capitalize on that. I didn't.

Also, here's a shot of our Great Engineer ~ why i had the Eng. spec. If we switch up the specialists, let's save him for the UN. Otherwise, whatever.
civ4screenshot00419bq.jpg

I played 16 turns. I was only going to play 15 and lost track of how many I played. I think we should aim for 15 for now, to speed up the pace of the game and find victory...or have it find us.

Turn 0. Uh, Pholk? You didn't tell me that Monte and Roosey made like-like. We have an American horse archer and a catapult right next to Mecca. Just great. Roosey wants 160 gold for peace. Gold we got, but I'll see if we can kill a unit first. Might make it cheaper for us.

Okay, never mind about that. I look at the event log and see that we've already lost a couple of battles....sigh...time to pay off the Roosey, I think. 160 Gold for peace. Done.

ad1530-roosey.jpg

Turn 1 Longbow => Longbow. Wait, when did we lose our worker? Nice reporting, Pholk! Roosey switches civics to Beurocracy and Organized Religion. Speaking of Civics, I switch to Vasalage and Caste System.

Turn 2 1545 Longbow => Longbow and Mao Circumnavigates. Someone forgot to tell him that were on a pangaea.

Turn 3 1550 Mao completes Notre Dame.

Turn 4 Longbow => Budhist Missionary. Gandhi adopts Mecrantilism.

Turn 5 1560 Mao demands that we cancel deals with Gandhi. Moa doesn't much care for us and Gandhi hates us. However, Monte (our sweetheart) hates Gandhi. Open Borders cancelled.

ad1560-mao.jpg

Turn 6 1565 Budhist Missionary => Budhist Missionary.

Turn 7 1570 Monte's Golden Age begins and our Missionary spreads Budhism to Carib (Chinese city just north of us.)

Turn 8 1575 :coffee:

Turn 9 1580 :coffee:

Turn 10 1585 Roosey demands that we cancel trades with Montezuma. Let's see...Roosey is -8 with us. The Vile Aztec is +8 with us...Hmmm. Decisions, decisions...uh, which Function Key is the shortcut for "Go Tuck Yourself In?"

ad1585-roosey.jpg

Dammit! Another crash to power-off kills my log back to turn 10 and the game to turn 11...

ad1590-civil.jpg

Turn 11 1590 Civil Service comes in and we adopt Beurocracy, thus adding to our production and commerce by half. Sweet. I begin engineering so we can build pikemen. I'm seeing a lot of knights in the world. Also, a worker comes in and I build another missionary. Oh and another Great Engineer was born in Mecca. He can give us 1024/1400 toward Engineering. I think I'll save him for the first available useful wonder.

Lastly, our missionary fails to spread Budhism in Nanjing.

Turn 12 1595 :coffee:

Turn 13 1600 Budweiser Missionary => Budweiser Missionary. Send the first missionary back toward Nanjing.

It's 1600, so I'll end it here. We're in peace, and we're not overwhelmingly dead yet. Go figure.

Uhm..can't you read the snippet of turnlog message on my second screenshot? WTH else could "ce with Roosevelt" mean. Jeebus, do i have to spell everything out??

even when i do, you still miss it ~

Will play tonight ~

No, not everything, but "Montezuma declares pea" might have been nice.

even when i do, you still miss it ~

You edited that in you cheating lugnut!!! It wasn't there before. See, look:

I love my font there. What do i call it again?? did you highlight the Queen game to give it a plug??

also, i think "Creative Screenshots" is the only way we're ever going to see a victory on this.

Note: the following is taken from post #47, back in page 3:

pholkhero said:
As it always seems to be, you are the pessimist, I, the realist. Our city's going to rapidly pick up steam; our buddhist monks ARE going to spread over the world, and we ARE going to bribe Monty and Nappy into eliminating Gandhi and Mao, w/a little help from our resource-less Camel Archers.

Now the quote from today:

pholkheroine said:

So what can we draw from this? Postulate: Being smarter than someone from Philadelphia and correctly recognizing a situation for what it is three pages earlier than said Philadelphian only gets you branded a pessimist. Whereas actually being said blockhead from New York's little sister, not able to distinguish one's posterior from an excavated depression in the landscape makes one a "realist".

Proof: none needed.
