Preparing for a possible invasion.

Ground forces:
  • 4 marines
  • 3 infantry
  • 19 mechanized infantry
  • 6 tanks
  • 6 guerillas

Naval forces:

  • 3 battleships
  • 4 cruisers
  • 2 destroyers
  • 3 submarines
  • 1 aircraft carrier
  • 8 frigates
  • 2 transports
  • 2 caravels

Air forces:
  • 7 jet fighters
  • 10 bombers

We also have 13 domestic workers for a total of 93 units. We are allowed 85 free units so our unit support cost is 16gpt.

We need a lot more tanks/mechs.

Also we should stop producing jets, while they are nice against bombers and as recon planes, they quite honestly suck at everything else.
 
I think jets are important for our EWS. A sea based EWS is subject to attack. if we use jets we might keep our eyes a bit longer.
 
Well, jets are good for our EWS, but I really think we have enough of them. We are in serious need of more ground forces as Yilar says. Almost 60% of our forces are not ground forces already.
 
I tend to agree, to some extent. 7 Jets isn't bad at all, whereas we're lacking in other departments. But I wouldn't be so quick to outright emphasize ground forces. Our whole defense strategy is based on not allowing a landing in the first place. I would like to see a continued emphasis on our navy in particular.

It's not that we're expecting no war - it's just that we should plan our battle to take place outside our shores.

Also, I suspect we'll end up seeing bombers from either FREE or SABER, so having jets around isn't a bad thing at all...

my first thought was more ground troops. ok, we try to keep them from landing, but we cannot be sure to stop that. house of cards if they do some crafty feints and decoys with their ships.

I think we should research this if we are at all worried about an invasion - radar towers will help with defense a lot, and they are cheap (workers)

At least they cost no upkeep. :mischief:

But I guess they destroy the improvement just as an airfield does, right? That would make two tiles outside of all cities' range (near The Ways and The Chamber) and all forests natural sites for those.
 
Radar towers don't destroy improvements. They give +25% to units in 2-tile radius on both defense and attack. Fortified mechs in metros would have over 40 defense and tanks attacking units on the beach would have 20 attack. If we have modern armor when the invasion comes, they would have 30 attack.

Start building some native workers in our cities with surplus food.

As I had said - maybe SABER does it?

And it cannot be destroyed by a bomber, if there are enough units on the tile (and fighters on sentry nearby)... ACs would have been great to "absorb" bombardments...

We need to build a net of different defenders supporting and defending each other. Every one of them will be vulnerable but together they are invincible!! :hammer:

To determine the right components and their mix ratio is the main challenge in our defensive strategy.
 
Pro:

Advanced Flight makes us much, much more difficult to take over and I don't see how FREE and SABER will just allow us to build the space ship without attacking us.

Con:
Advanced Flight will take 5 turns if we research while not in a GA. (5400 beakers and we will make 1288 @ 70%)
 
What is the estimate on Space Ship builds between the different Civ's?

Will we be perceived as most likely to be first, and thus a target?

Or will FREE or SABER be confident of getting it before the others, and then not attack us or the other who is the favourite?
 
The trick is to get so far ahead in techs that they don't know how close we are to spaceship win.

While a radiotower is nice, the EWS is the key to victory here. Once we get modern armors we should be unstoppable against anything beside a gangbang and nukes.
