Preview: The Centurion MK VIII Tank Project

I think that smoking mirror may have posted a message recently in a thread somewhere in this forum about the correct angles, I'll have a look and if I find it I will edit this post with a link. You might want to have a look yourself tho.

Edit: This is all I could find, I am sure someone posted some angle plans and such recently though I remember thinking, wow thats useful to know... but like most things that are useful to know, they are soon forgotten.

For camera angles I usualy set the camera at 60 degrees from vertical (striaght down). Ithink this is what the firaxis usits were done as.

You're doing great omnimower, I have never created a unit.

Edit: ie. never created a unit, in awe of those who do. ;)

I probably really shouldn't speak for everyone, but I think people enjoy seeing previews and being able to help and give input, and also see the progress. You've got quite a following here! :)

Yes, I'll check those too. *Message to self... remember... side and front... side and front* :)

OmniMower,

Only worry if I start to answer them :)

Ever have people wonder why you're sitting in front of your computer laughing to yourself?

I keep meaning to do an animation tutorial but inever seem to have time; I'm building up quite a collection of diagrams though and I may make one with my next unit.
Here is a diagram that I think shows the angle that the camera should be set at; this is how I do it, and it looks about right (I e-mailed firaxis asking about camera angles but all I managed to do was confuse them).

Go Smoking Mirror, thats the diagram I mentioned you had posted somewhere else. :goodjob:

I was in the middle of submitting this to the forum last night when the forum went down. Grrrr.

So here it is, the isometric perspectives from the side view of Centurion and the Modern Armour. Looks like the Cent. needs to have the left side dropped just a little bit to give it the same perspective as the mod. arm.

Hmmm, Smoking Mirror,
is it 60 degrees in all directions? ie N W S E?
and 45 (30) degrees in the isometric views?
I am gonna get into trouble here since the 3D prg I am using not works with cameras. It uses geometric planes, but I think I can set the angles on them to.

Kingpin,
you are so right, the image from the side is in only 30 degree angle, it should be 60 as Smoking Mirror stated.

I´ll get back to as soon I can, I have devoted my weekend to unit creation.... along with cold beer ofcourse!

/OmniMower

Be careful with that cold beer, Omnimower. It can distort that perspective somewhat, on occasion :) We'll know what happened if the next image you post is a little off...

Keep up the good work, OmniMower. This is shaping up to be a first-class unit. You've certainly got some talent there. The Centurion is looking awesome so far.

I imagine the rendering of the unit will be a bit of a challenge, but be patient with it. There are many people in this forum who are willing to assist you if you need help.

Thanx Kingpin! :)
Always good to hear that you are on the right track!
Well the rendering part is the easy one (I hope we mean the same thing), the export thing is a lil black cloud hoovering above my head at the moment... but I will solve it!

I thought that the beer made you more focused??? :) or is it just me being optimistic

/OmniMower

Hmmmm. From personal experience, I can't really say about the beer. I'm a non-drinker. Always have been. Always will be.

I'm not sure that we're talking the same thing regarding rendering. That's really not my field at all. I've reached the length of my artistic talent with this: O-<--< (in case you can't tell what it is, it a person sleeping :))

And that export thing will work out. Have a great weekend, buddy!

Will do mate! You have a good tima on the weekend to....

About the rendering: when I talk about render I mean the last thing you do with a model... when you put on lights, textures and other things that are in the "final image" Do you mean that?

and good luck being a non-drinker, I admire those who are that I can resist it. The only thing I am is a non-smoker, always been and will always be.... (never tested it either) its the most useless invention the world have ever seen!!!

By rendering, I was meaning taking the final image and turning it into a flc file. I guess I used the wrong word there. Whatever. I'm sure you've got the whole process figued out...
