I've got them--but I can't attack an enemy ship with them. I cannot get over the water at all. The entry in the encyclopedia makes it sound like it definitely should be able to, so what's wrong?

Yes, I'm new--I like Civ3, and since I'd have to get a new computer to play Civ4, I'm sticking with what works.

They're Bombard weapons; they work like artillery, only the missile is used up.

They're "land units" in that you can't move them over water tiles.

And, welcome to CFC!

edit: beat you, trooper :D

Press 'b' (short for bombard) while the missile is active, you'll see a grid; the range. Pick the tile and let it fly. Cruise missiles may also be loaded unto naval vessels, can't recall which though.

CMs are pretty useless though, use artillery and bombers.

And welcome to CFC!

Edit: Bartleby :gripe:

Now you know why you probably do not want to build them. Their range is too short.

Yes their range is short, but they do kill. :hammer:

They can be transported by any naval vessels except carriers.

Use artillery to weaken them.

Cruise missile them to kill.

There is somethign that amsues me about loading a transport with cruise missiles and using it for an initial bombardment. Just imagaine, the front of the transport hits the beach and opens up. Enemey troops get ready to fire their guns into it when suddenly missiles stream out and go BOOM!

Wait...you can unload Cruise missiles into ships?
Since when?

I just tried, and you can't activate the cruise missile from a transport and bombard someone with it.

Haven't tried any other ship tho.

Edit: You can launch tactical nukes from nuclear subs tho.

Cruise missles can, I believe, be loaded onto Nuclear Subs, and fired as well.

Or maybe not. I don't remember either. I usually use the missles for taking out defenders on radar towers and such, so I usually don't need to fire them from the sea.

To fire a missile from a ship, it must have a "Tactical Missile" flag checked.

And also, there's an error in the game where the Cruise Missile does not have the Load flag checked, so you can't directly load it onto a transport. Only have the transport move a square out, then send the missile into the ship via walking/flying.

Welcome! I am new to CFC also. Cruise missles can bombard ships, though. I was recently playing a scenario as Japan. It was 1754 AD. There had not been one war yet. And then the Germans annihilated my Carrier and Destroyer in their waters! I WAS PISSED. Yeah.

You are saying welcome to Bluemofia?

Anyway, welcome to CFC, Swiss_Mercenari. [party]

And I've never used Cruise Missiles, because I was very dissapointed when I built my first one... I was sure that it could move over water tiles, but no.... And I got so angry that I've never used them again.
