This problem's come up lately and I was wondering if there was a simple fix to this. Whenever I plug headphones into the jack at the side of this laptop, I've been getting the sound blocked to the right earpiece and only if I rotate or push the plug again would the sound return, but that'd be very temporary as it'd go out again shortly.

I've tried this with several pairs of headphones, so that can't be it. Additionally, the sound to the left ear is as good as ever, without interruption or a decline in quality.

So is there just dirt or did I knock something out of place or what? Or is there something more technical behind this?

Thanks in advance.

Possible that you knocked a wire loose somewhere, but one cannot be certain with this. Do the speakers work fine? ( both speakers, assuming you have two, project sound)

The speakers on the laptop work as well as they've always had.

You sure it's not your right ear? :D

Seriously though, I had this once before, and I just had to make do with wherever it sat with 2 earpieces working. Tried seeing if there is any dust and what-not in there?

I think I'm better hearing with my right ear than my left.

But I'll try clearing for dust, that is a possibility I hadn't thought about. And it's a highly likely possibility in my case.

Lately it seems to have gotten better...so that's a win, at least.

Thanks guys!

No worries.

I have found with almost all of my laptops and MP3 players that the headphone jack is an extremely hardy piece of equipment. It's just when dust accumulates on the pickups it causes issues.

Hope it works out for you!

Sometimes it could be a case with the headphones themselves. Sometimes the wires can get pinched or worndown in the headphones that cause one line to just quit.

The Yankee - Does the problem resolves itself when you position a wire of the effected side of the headphone?

he said that it happens with different sets of headphones, if I understood him correctly, so its not that.

The Yankee: have you tried reinstalling the sound drivers?

That's right.

Wouldn't a driver issue affect the sound coming from the laptop's built-in speakers also?

Anyway, set about getting some of the dust that may have been in there...so far, there's been some improvement. But then again, I haven't tried it extensively tonight.

It's been better than it has been since I made the OP, at least.

I had a similar problem, unfixable unless the replace the input jack :(
