Problem with WOTM/GOTM save

Here is another possibility...I am now relatively sure none of the files there have been messed with. Is it possible that because I am not on the admin side and use the game files from the admin side accessed from my side that that is what is causing the issue?

What OS are you using?
Eg Vista will by default create new files in a different place when you dont have admin rights, so that could mess up with the the save game protection I guess.

XP does the same...Well, if that is the issue is it possible to get non protected saves without the ability to submit them?

We supply the worldbuildersaves for the games after the results are posted.

Could you point me to them? Looked could not find.

Will I be able to run them with the latest Warlords patch? I am guessing its the latest patch that's causing the old HOF mods to crash?

Thanks

Go to the main GOTM home page

In the right hand column, select the Completed Game you want the WB file for.

Click the Results button below that

There's a link at the top of the results listing saying "Download the World Builder File". That's a download link ... for the WB file for that game.

If you select another game in the Game menu on that page you jump straight to that game's results, with another WB file link.

I had an issue with the protected save. The problem is this that if you are playing on a non administrator account in windows (XP is what I use) then the save game protection does not check the right folder. You have to run the program as administrator. I still have a problem with the save unless I run it as admin, which I doubt most people who use non admin accounts can do. Is it possible this can be remedied?

The admins do a good job answering questions in the threads, but they don't guarantee an answer. you are much more likely to get an answer to your questions by sending them a private message.

For the past 2 days I have been unable to load the GOTM main page so I can download the latest GOTM and WOTM and BtsOTM if there is one.

Is there aproblem with the web page. I don't have trouble loading the fourms.:crazyeye:

It's working fine for me, and no one else has reported problems. What browser are you running?

There isn't a BtS game yet.

Working fine on both my Vista machine and older XP machine ... using internet explorer.

Maybe an error in the web address you are using? Be sure for main page it is

http://gotm.civfanatics.net/

The pages with the download links are

WOTM 12 http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/index.php?month=60012

GOTM 21 http://gotm.civfanatics.net/civ4games/index.php?month=40021

Hope this helps

Addendum: If that does not help, then it might be a problem with your ISP ... from a PM discussion in Feb 2007 when one computer could reach the forums, and one could not ...

"You ain't got a thing, if you ain't got that ping ...

(Apologies to Duke Ellington:
"It don't mean a'thing, if it ain't got that swing
Do Wop,Do Wop,Do Wop,Do Wop,Do Wop,Do Wop,Do Wop,Do Wop,")

After Gyathaar's reply, tried the ping on the game PC, got time out messages.

Did the ping on the productivity PC, worked fine.

No ping suggested the problem was with the ISP. Not a problem at my or your end.

Now, I have dial-up (well, had at that time) and it occurred to me that I might have the two PC's using different access numbers. That proved true, and when I switched the game PC to the access number used by the prod PC, all is now well !! The game PC finds the forums just fine, and the ping is as expected.

So it looks like these DNS problems can be access number specific within an ISP. Something to file away for future reference.

Thanks to Gyathaar for the correct diagnostic for this! "

Downloaded a few old games - Civ IV gotm - last night.

Game 1, 10, and 21 load. Function as expected.

Games 14 - 20 give the message that "the save file is protected to ensure assets in your mod folder have not changed ... "

I am positive I have not modified any asset files. I am assuming all changes from the menu Options are allowed.

When 174 gets loaded does it break something in 161.010 and .011? Possibly something isn't backwards compatible.

Hello, welcome :wavey:

Were you trying to run GOTMs 14 to 20 in 1.74? If so that would explain your problem. The games check the software and will only run with the version they were configured for.

If you want to run the old games you need a dual installation. See local how-to instructions for creating 1.61 and 1.74 parallel installations.

Makes sense. Thanks.

But life isn't simple.

I have patch 1.74 installed. So the content of folder Sid Meir's Civilization 4 is copied to folder Sid Meir's Civilization 4 1.74. This means I have 2 copies of Sid Meir's Civilization 4 1.74.

To get a Sid Meir's Civilization 4 1.61 ... How is patch 1.74 uninstalled?
