Problems with new patch

I never use illegal stuff and I trust this will be solved quickly. I mean, how hard can it be to solve this problem?

Applying a crack to the game is NOT illegal as long as you own the original CD.

I am going crazy. Bought the ptw cd this morning, and now I'm reading I can patch to the 1.14 version. Suddenly i feal steam coming out of my ears.

What are firaxis/infogrames thinking??? They think it's ok to let people pay 27 euro for a game that's not functioning.

The infogrames Benelux office is in Eindhoven, maybe all the dutch civ'ers should go there and sit on their doorstep untill they fix it or refund the game.

Looking for patch news I ran into Infogrames corporate philosophy:

Infogrames' Corporate Philosophy
"Infogrames will lead mass-market demand for interactive entertainment."
- Bruno Bonnell, Chairman and CEO, Infogrames.

Infogrames' vision is to be the premier global source of digital interactive entertainment, transporting people of all ages and interest levels to a world of wonder and imagination by drawing from next-generation technologies.

While entertainment is at the heart of Infogrames' products, the company also believes that games must reward players by allowing them to follow their imagination and become immersed in new worlds and fantasies. By adapting next-generation technologies, and cultivating the imagination, innovation and energy of its people, Infogrames designs products that facilitate growth in the person who is playing, whether that growth is hand-eye coordination, logic skills or simply a sense of wonder and inspiration.

transporting people of all ages and interest levels to a world of wonder and imagination.

Worked : PtW is some sort of wonder and you'll need a lot imagination trying to understand how they could release it in this state

Adapting next-generation technology
 If this is next generation tech, it's as useless as future tech.I'll stick with proven tech for a while

the last sentence of their philosophy really makes me laugh. Working on their own logic skills would be a good start IMO.

Trying to see the humour of it all

Just out of curiosity I just tried to run the 1.04F patch on the European PtW and I got the same abominable result, i.e. the continuous questions to insert the original CD that is already in the bloody drive.

The least thing FIRAXIS could do in a next patch is verify whether you have a "correct" version of PtW installed on your system for which the patch is designed before ruining it with an incompatible update.

Infogrames probably didn't think to tell Firaxis that they put a different copy protection on the European release.

For those Europeans who want to play PtW with 1.14F I can tell you that a "non-Firaxis" no-cd-patch exists that will allow you to run PtW 1.14F without the game asking you to insert the CD when it is already in the bloody drive. However, it will still require you to have the CD in the drive during play! Basically it just bypasses the utter stupidity of the 1.14F not functioning on legally purchased CD's anywhere in Europe.

This post is NOT an encouragement to use illegal software. It's a great game, pay for it. It is an encouragement to allow legal owners the right to use their legally purchased software.

Does this mean that, if you have used this crack, you can no longer remove the CD from your drive once you've started the game? Because that would mean that when trying to start a LAN-game one copy of PTW is no longer enough to get the game running on all systems.

The original rules of FIRAXIS still apply with request to whether you need the CD in the drive or not during start-up or execution of a multi-player game. If previously you were able to remove the CD after you started the game, then I trust this behaviour does not change.

The only thing I know about the patch that I found is this:

Before: With 1.14F it does not  even recognise the original CD.
After: With 1.14F it does :D recognize the original CD (while it still asks for the CD during start-up).

And for me, that's quite good enough. :egypt:

Ah, thank God for that! I'll send you a PM too, cos we really need it, and are forced to use it!

ERIKK, Dynabyte had the wrong price in their system. If you still have the...het bonnetje :D..., just go back and ask for your money.

I don't have PTW yet, but I was going to buy the game there!
No idea. The price seemed fair to me. But don't forget to get their klantenkaart. If you just give your name & address, they'll knock 10% off the price so you get it for 26,95 instead of 29,95. No signature required.

we REALLY shouldnt have to sort this out ourselves relying on crackers! this is really awful of firaxis. as if they didnt test the patch ONCE on the non US version. utter rubbish

btw, im gonna be paying £16.99 for PTW in the UK :-)

Well I think 26,95 EURO is fair. And the 10% discount is nice. I think I'm going to buy the game there in a couple of days.
