Problems with RTW

I am installing Rome: Total War Gold Edition (the regular version of it) and am having extreme difficulties.

I am installing it the way the manual says, yet I get this message:

Rome: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.

I tried reinstallation 2 times. This error has popped up 3 times. What should I do?

When does the error come? When you start campaign or when you start the game? What are your system specs?

I suggest trying it without any other programs running.

Tried that, still doesn't work.

I recently got a virus and it disabled my sound card.

Sorry, can't help you. Maybe a local computer expert/nerd could help you with the sound card problem, that may cause the crash.

I have the same problem with the sims 2 and the sims and simcity 3 but not simcity 4. Some games just don't work on some computers for no reason. I have a 2 yr period of maxis games that won't work on my computer. Usually the problem is caused by the graphics card driver not the sound card. Try adding -nosound to the end of the target by right-clicking the shortcut and selecting properties and if it works then the problem is your sound card but if it still doesn't work, it's probably your graphics card.

1- run adware to clean up your hdd
2- could be starforce use a remover
3- check for patches
4- disable useless processess. (thanks MS)
5- new drivers ? ati has issues
6- last resort format clean re-install
