Production Exploit

One interesting thing i have noticed is production overflow. The prodution overflow occurs when you produce more hammers then required. In this case, the remaining hammers are transferred to the next item produced.

Here the trick, buildings almost always have a build advantage to finsh. You can used it to build military.

Suppose you are building Barracks, you are Aggressive and you have Organised religion.
Now let say
1) You have 5 hammers left to finish.
2) Bonus due industrious 100%
3) Bonus due Organised religion 25%

Total Bonus 125%.
Now if you can get 15 Hammers in the last turn, you get 15*2.25 = 34 Hammers.

Considering you only need 5 hammers, you get 34 - 5 = 29 Hammers as overflow. ( -1 as penalty)

Wait doesnt it mean you have just Paid yourself 2 a free warrior :D. Or saved 2 turns. Basically you get 20 free hammers.

Other abusive results gets when you are building wonders (especially if you are industrious).

This is why building stonhege can be rediculously cheap :).

I've noticed this, I've been able to produce military units in the space of 1-2 turns after finishing a building.

Is it an exploit? As far as I know, it's been designed that way to avoid micromanaging from previous civ games where overflow was lost forever so you had to tweak everything to arrive perfectly without any loss.

The overflow itself isn't an explot. But if anton is right, then the overflow is being modified by your civilization's traits. Instead of making a lighthouse cost half the hammers for an Organized leader, for example, it doubles the hammers the city produces each turn. This also applies to harvesting forests...a forest that would ordinarily yield 45 hammers is worth 90 when applied to a half-price building. However, if you've only got five hammers left to complete it, and there's no mechanism in place to correct for it, you've suddenly got forty hammers from nowhere to do with what you will. It's not unbalancing, but if it's true, it should certainly be addressed in a future patch.

I dont feel this is an exploit but more a good micro in the game. I usually time it so i chop forrest when a wonder is near compleation..with forge and industrial trait and say 100% bonus from stone f.ex you can get 90 hammers from each chop..very powerful overflow :)

I've suspected this as well :/ Didnt bother checking it out, Ill double check this today but it does seem possible.
