Project: Arda Mod (LOTR)

Great ideas, their concept is great, but about the names I have some sugestions to make (and some new ideas) but I think that instead of Representation we should have Stewardship, we should use High Kingship instead of Vassalage, and we should gave some "evil" civics like Tyranism. Oath of Fëanor is a great idea, but Law of Mandos should rather be "Obey to the Valar" or such. Law of Ents isn't very good, because nobody ever had ents at its disposal, but Communion with the Nature would be fine. We also should have Council of Wises as a civic.
For the Religious civics, I think they need some radical changes: my idea for the religions is to have The Cult of Darkness, and The Light of Aman. They would be founded early in the game, the first by The Shadow and the second by a Elven civ. The elves and the Shadow must have "no non-state religion spread", so they can't adopt the religion of the other (and that the elves that weren't in Valinor couldn't have The Light of Valinor), but the Dwarves and Men should have options to change their alignment.

For now, that is my idea, because I surely don't want to have Valar-religions. Perhaps we could also have a Reverence for Ilúvatar, like in Númenor, and/or a Naturalism religion, but Religion should be a minor aspect of Middle-Earth.

Yes, I have already done these techs (both to enable and disable techs to a faction). The only problems are: in the Pedia, the selection on the list appears to be other tech (the one 8 techs after the one you're looking), in the start it shows "you know , , , , ...", and in the the pedia (required techs) it shows a blank space and the other tech.

I've noticed. it shows those eight empty spaces, and seems to be crammign two techs per space for those empty spaces. any idea how long Chamber of records is down?

it wont be up for an other week if i am corect.
perhaps you could try wikipedia or something in the style of LoTR.

@Elda King:

One suggestion for the Nature Bond civic: Name it Songs of Yavannah ! As she is the Vala that represents Nature in all its kinds and with her songs creates new things, that would fit perfectly I think.

Imhotep

That would work.
I'm starting the Civics as soon as i can, whiel you work on the techs, Elda King.

Sincerly

It's alright... a lot of the things you want in the civicsd don't have XML tags. (reaserch, for example)

What you mean research in capital or research y specialist? As far as I remember, all I said is possible just with XML, and most is already in the vanilla civics, or at least something very alike.

I'm sorry, but i can't find anything that has any relation to research in the civ4civicsinfos.XML

i could give ideas on units and stuff if u need that but i dont know how to create anything so im not much help there

I found that the best way to fix the civ-specific techs is to just give a name to the restraining techs, so now we have Mortality (disables techs to dwarves), Free-will (disables techs to The Shadow), People of The Surface (disables techs to dwarves), Fading (disables techs to Men), Firstborne Of Ilúvatar (tech is only to Elves), Children of Aulë (tech is only to Dwarves), Minions of The Enemy (tech is only to The Shadow), and Mortal Men (tech is only to Men). The techs still are invisible at the Tech Tree, and have no icon, and their pedia is blank, but the odd things are gone. Perhaps I still add one short, generic pedia, but for now it's done.
About the civics, I saw the file and found a place where I think we can change the research. I still have not tried (I'll do so later today), but I guess the tag <CommerceModifier> can do that. Inside this tag, we have three <iCommerceModifier> tags; the third is for sure where we change the culture bonus (in a percent tax), and I think the first is the treasury and the second the research.
