Proposal to Firaxis

Would you rather have whole scenarios that wouldn't work because they used units from the Japan set? I know that I've gotten plenty of gameplay out of PTW already. Easily $30 worth.

thats true warpstorm

GIDustin, I've heard a rumor that Conquests will have the full contents of PTW included

I have heard rumors both ways. The wise company would dispell this rumor since either it has PtW or it doesn't. If people buy PtW while waiting on C3C to come out, and it does come with PtW as part of the XP, then those fans are not going to appreciate it. By the same token, if fans don't buy PtW expecting it to ship as part of C3C, they will be upset if it doesn't ship with the new XP. Either way translates into lost sales and dissatisfied customers.

Based on the original information released on the Civ3.com site, it wouldn't appear that C3C ships with PtW stuff since it only shows a 400 MB install. If it includes PtW, it should have said: C3C install minimum 400 MB if you have PtW installed, and 800 MB minimum if you don't have PtW installed.

Considering that most of that 400 MB is art and scenario related and very little is other stuff, then adding the 8 new civs and scenarios will take most of the 400 MB for C3C.

I would buy it regardless as I think that the artwork and mods being put on this site are professional enough to sell, but doesn't the civ3 website mention that they WILL include fan mods/maps with the XP?
I would assume that meant the best that this site has to offer.

It is sad I can't join this project either way, but I'll throw my support into it anyway!

Now, I just hope this can be done fast, as I believe too much time might be lost deciding to do either this or that, that is for all parts...

And, about the poll, I would pay no more than 20$ extra, but of course, it depends on a lot of factors. If the contents is too great to not buy, or if I am in a state of no-brains, I will buy it even if it costs 70$! :D

What we are proposing will go beyond anything you see available online at this time. A Best of the Net CD, that will have the latest vastly improved versions of peoples favourite mods. In addition a number of us are prepared to come together and collaborate in making some new very unique scenarios. Time will tell if this proposal gets accepted – we are hopeful that it will and very anxious to commence work on it.

All we need is for Firaxis and Atari to give us an opportunity.

@ TETurkhan
Is this going on the conquests XP or is it something completely different?

Awsome idea:goodjob: but I can't make units:( all I can do is make the mod(add units, resources, buildings, and Civilopedia entries)

Kinda makes us who bought PtW feel dumb though... I mean, how about NEW content that like, takes up more space instead of adding in old content.

Depend how you look at it.

Compared to folks who will haven't bought PtW, you had ability to play with some MP and SP enhancments for whole year before them when they get C3C.

Except for international buyers - Australia only got it mid February this year. Was it really worth AU$50 to get a badly functioning feature 6 months in advance?

Maybe you'll get C3C in February too? :D

Is this going on the conquests XP or is it something completely different? - Sir Eric

Could be either one - if it is not included for Conquests we do have the option to have it released at a later time on its own - again with the approval of Firaxis and Atari.

I'm currently working on a Command & Conquer Mod, which I try to make as good as possible (making units in 3D Studio Max, making good civilopedia entries, new graphics, units, techs, a good tech tree, etc) and would love to contribute some work on this project.

But I guess a mod like the one I'm making can not be part of this CD (if it becomes good enough), considering copyrights and trademarks and such?

First of all, Warpstorm knows some of the developers so his *rumors* can be trusted more. Second the civ3 FAQ in general is all wrong about what you need to run any Civ3 game because for the original Civ3 it says 400 megs of hd and it says the same for the two expansions. That, obviously, is not correct. If you scroll down to the bottom of the Civ3 main page (not the FAQ) it says all the system requirements for PTW and it says that it needs *only 100 megs of hd space*. That is *way* different than what the FAQ says for PTW. I trust that because the info came out after they completed the Civ3 PTW FAQ. Now, for Civ3 Conquest it says 400 megs, (we will find that to be incorrect in the future as well) and if PTW needs only 100 megs than the PTW additions will fit easily into Conquests.

AFAIK, MB and Megs are the same thing.
;)

BTW, 800 MB would be *way* to much just for 16 civs and a few other things. It would almost be 1 GB.

Well, kring has been known to brush up with a few of those developers too

And PtW takes up 378 mb of space on my hd, excluding the scenarios folder and the saves folder.

And the PtW CD is filled with 557 mb worth of files.

So I guess kring could be right too :)

I understand that WarpStorm knows some of the developers, but that doesn't guarantee that his "rumors" are always more reliable or fact. It would be nice if Breakaway, Atari, or Firaxis would let people know, for the reasons I stated in my last post.

If you check out how much HD space your copy of PtW takes on your HD, you will find it takes 400 MB+ and that Civ 3 takes 600 MB+; meaning it takes more than 1 GB HD on my computer. I haven't added anything extra Civ3 stuff on that computer. I find this to be more reliable than what the FAQ or the CD case states. Also, according to the PtW readme, vanilla Civ 3 needs 600 MB and 400 MB additional for PtW. It is not unusual for newer games with expansions to take 1.5 -2.0 GB of HD.

Like I said, much of the 400 MB for PtW is in the Art folder (263 MB+), with most of the rest taken up by the Scenarios folder at 113 MB (the ToT scenario by itself is almost 69 MB). The Flics folder accounts for 183 MB; the units folder accounts for almost 39 MB.

It is reasonable to expect that Conquests (with 8 new civs, etc) will take the same amount of space for the Art and Scenarios folder.

It is easy enough to verify how much HD space is taken up by PtW and/or Civ 3

Yep, but it is confusing on their civ3 web how they wrote it.

Agreed.

My hope is that Someone official will let people know. If PtW is shipped with Conquests and it isn't mentioned early on, then the fans that buy PtW before C3C comes out will be upset. If the fans don't buy PtW because they believe it is part of C3C, and it isn't, those fans will be upset. Either way, it will affect sales. If people assume that PtW ships as part of C3C, then they will be fewer sales of PtW.

Edit:

I don't know if PtW will/won't be included as part of Conquests. I will add more later, but I have to go somewhere for a while.
