Proposal to Firaxis

Again, I agree with you fully. ;)

If Atari did say yes and the CD was made, would it be a complete package? Or would I still have to download certain files to be able to play?
The only reason that I am asking is that with the Australian version of PTW, TAM mod that was included on the CD was missing some files so if I want to play it (which I do) I have to download the whole lot which is 21Mb. That's a lot for a 28Kbps (or even a 56Kbps) dial up modem like mine.

Sir Eric,

You bring up a very good point. Some mods are enormous in size and downloading them (add-ons) poses problems for many. This CD unlike PTW however would have the full versions of the mods or very close to it.

I am glad to see so many of you responding positively towards this project… ultimately it is you people who will be the final judges on whether a product is worthy or not.

Thanks again for your support!

We support your idea because it is a great idea and we want to make the civ series better. It is just a bit late for them to put it on the C3:C CD or maybe it is not. I say this because they have to have everithing the beta testers have and what the regular coustumer will have after six months or it has to be very simular.

I think that a poll with reference to price increase would be valuable information for Atari/Infogrames. I mean if it was $10 more for the 'Best of the Net' CD, then I'm all for it. But, if it is $30 then maybe not. Perhaps it should be marketed as a seperate entity with Atari's blessing (ie royalties).

I do understand that the quality would be much higher if the modders were getting something for their efforts but I'm just trying to say that price can be very important.

Just make sure all your units and sounds come from completely legal places as to let Atari not be liable for the CD, thus not required to say no to such a project.

Exmaples of nonos including Age of Empires conversions, and gun noises from other computer games (as one creator did in his top notch quality units).

I like the poll idea but how would you structure it?

I've also suggested the poll idea and trevort suggested it before me. So there are a few people who think this is a good idea.

The tread should begin with a sentence that attracts people because you want as much attention as you possibly can. Something like:
Poll: Would you like the Conquests expansion to be bigger?

But you can probably come up with a more attractive sentence if you think about it. You should explain in the first post what things you are going to add to the conquests expansion.
Then the choises in the poll could be:
1) I'm willing to pay 30$ extra for this expansion if all this is added
2) I'm willing to pay 20$ extra
3) I'm willing to pay 10$ extra
4) I will not buy the expansion if these extras aren't added
5) The extras don't matter to me, I'll buy the expansion anyway.

I hope that a lot of people will react to such a poll.

I would vote 2.

I think that is a good idea:)

That is actually a marketing tool to decide of the price of products or services. Usually the range is more limited and increments are really small amounts to statistically understand what is the price limit.

Her it would be more to convince Firaxis so I think it is definitely alright.

Any news from Firaxis yet ?

I have a mod I wouldnt mind having on this CD but I have a very vital question. My mod uses some of the anims from the PTW Extras folder, and Conquests does NOT require PTW to play but my mod does, so how would that work? Those who have both expansions would be fine, but those who only have conquests would get errors.

Anyway, I will start making a webpage for my mod so as to describe what it is and does and post a link in the near future.

We are working on constructing a poll - hopefully be up within a day or so...

Good point but until we get our hands on Conquests its hard for us to know anything... Possibly Firaxis will allow us to use units from PTW on the Best of the Net Disk... (I'm guessing here)... time will tell...

Your poll is incomplete. I'll buy the expansion no matter what's in it (I'm just that way). I'd consider paying more if more is in it.

GIDustin, I've heard a rumor that Conquests will have the full contents of PTW included

Kinda makes us who bought PtW feel dumb though... I mean, how about NEW content that like, takes up more space instead of adding in old content.
