Hi

What are your first impressions of PTW?

I haven't tried PTW myself yet (fortunately? ) since PTW will not arrive to Denmark until 22nd Nov.

All I have heard from the reviews and your comments here is that it's loaded with bugs and that MP really doesn't work *WTH*. Can this really be true even after they have released the patch? If true I will probably wait buying the game?

And another question.... I read in a review that there isn't any "reply" function in hot seat mode??????
I can't believe this can be true. Even in old Amiga games they had a replay feature so you could see what your human enemy did in his round (attacking your units etc....). How hard can it be to implement a necessary and basic feature like this???

And a question for Firaxis. If it's all true what I have read I would strongly recommend that you hire a few professional software testers (like me for example :D ) and fire the ones you already have. They must have been doing anything but testing the software since you have missed so many obvious bugs / sugs?

Anyway I hope the "multiplayer Patch" is not as bad as it seems to be according to the reviews so I keep my hopes up for now! Until then

Cheers

Consesus is emerging that it was probably more Infogrames pushing to release a product, ready or not.

Don't make any Sid effigies just yet.

The only person you will be playing with in Play The World is yourself.

The game whould have been called the Play With Yourself Expansion Set.

Don't buy it unless you really like blowing $30 for a game that doesn't do what it is supposed to do, multiplayer.

If you do get it atleast your hard earned money will give you a chance to play the game with 2 new units, the medieval infantry and guerilla. Those are prettycool.

The Multiplayer additions are just some of the changes/additions. There's also changes to the editor, increased number of civs in single player, and an increased world size.

A bug isn't fixed just because you know it's there - someone needs to 'program it away' before it's gone. In case you didn't know :p

And though multiplayer is buggy, it is actually possible to play, if you set up your computer correctly, and make sure anyone you join a game with, have done the same.

I know :P , but many of the bugs I have heard of seems to be so called "shipkillers" that more or less will ruin the gaming experience. A game or program containing shipkillers should never be released before the bug(s) have been fixed. I suspect that the managers have forced the release out in order to keep a deadline?!?!

Good news :). What about the problems with the lagging when playing over the Internet? Is it possible solving this problem by configuring the pc?

Cheers

 When the 'suits' asked the play testers if it worked they replied, "Yes, it does." The 'suits' didn't ask if it works well enough to market. :) So really it is the 'suits' fault after all. :D

If anyone starts up a pool, I'll be placing my bet here too :D

Some of it is removable - if you turn off other apps - I recommend turning off Antivirus and any chat programs. You think they're so innocent, but they're not, really :)
There's still lag once you've done that, especially if you're playing turnless mode against anyone with a slow 'puter, as the game has to wait for the slowest computer to process everything, so in a way, the Turnless game always runs at the speed of the slowest computer. And the rest of the lag should be fixed with the soon-to-come patch, according to the chat with Jeff Morris a few days ago.

One more reason to buy PtW: It'll give you a chance to whoop my behind in MP And if you don't think that's enough, 'I shall taunt you some more....' :D

@Cartouche Bee: Do you think the suits even asked? ;)

My mistake. ;)

But that train of thought would basically confirm my conclusion. :)

I know alot of work goes on that gets reduced out of the equation by 'marketing concepts' and 'timing issues'. Pardon the pun.

And some lie with GameSpy, not PTW.

What makes you think that they don't have professional testers? (I know they do)

What makes you think that bugs weren't identified and suggestions made? (I know they were)

It takes time to fix them, you know. Especially since they only have 3 programmers on this project. Rather than more or 'better' testers, more programmers (like me :D) would get the issues resolved rather than just identified.
