Jeff Morris revealed some more info about the patch editor that will be released in June and the multiplayer match-making feature in Play the World. On the editor, Jeff wrote that "The editor that we'll be releasing around June (and that is a very tenative date BTW) will not include features exclusive to PTW (like the short game modes or new map features). In order to play scenarios with those features, not surprisingly, you`ll need PTW. The ability to customize the map with cities and units, create new ones, etc will be possible in the patch editor however, and PTW owners will be able to play these without problems. Scenarios with features specific to PTW included (aka created with the PTW editor) will not be able to be played in vanilla civ3."

Regarding player match-making, he said Play the World will use the popular Gamespy Arcade for internet games and will also contain an in-game match-making feature. These match-making features should make it alot easier to find players to play multiplayer games.

Vanilla civ3 = civ3?
Yup, the Civ3 we have now, w/o the expansion pack.

Everyone is talking about vanilla these days. In the OT forum there is a Vanilla Coke thread. :D

I just stopped by the gamespy arcade site for the first time... . . and I'm a bit confused. You have to pay to play there?

No, it's free. :) You only need to pay if you want to get rid of the ad banners on the Gamespy Arcade pages.

I like the Gamespy setup so that doesn't seem like a problem. Not being able to play PTW scenarios in vanilla Civ3 is old hat (happened with StarCraft and BroodWar and I am sure before that too) and not bothersome.

Regarding "and that is a very tenative date BTW", that sucks. I want it sooenr than later. :)

Hmmmmmm......I would think it would be easy to play the MP with someone in the same town as you.

I also hope they allow direct TCP/IP connections. To not allow that would be a sin!

Sorry royfurr,
You know our policy about that stuff. I'll just stick with what Jeff has already posted and leave it at that. As always, we will post the readme file on the forums shortly before we ship the patch.

Sincerely,

Speedy

Yahhh, I know, thats why I asked for a "window", not a date, as in "a week or two" or "end of the month" or whatever.

Still, it can't hurt to ask ...

Thanks for posting, and reading our Forum. Gives a little hope, knowing Friaxians ARE reading ...
