*** In Progress - Full ***

I'm new to this, so if there's anything important I miss out, please tell me...

I would like set up a PBEM game with the following features: (A (?) denotes that this aspect is open to change)

Pack - PTW
Type - Epic
Size - Small (Randomly generated)
Production - Normal (not accelerated)
Victory - All normal modes, no short-game types
Water - 80%(?)
Land - Archipileago(?)
Humid(?), Wet(?), 3 billion years(?)
Barbarians - Most(?)
AI - None(?)
Diff - Regent

As far as I can recall, that's most of the details. If I've missed anything, please let me know. I would like to start the game as soon as possible, so first come, first served (but if you're going to drop out, don't bother signing up). If we get more than four players very quickly, I will change it to a Small map.

We will probably open up a chat room for the game, but will use this forum for GPSes if the relevant player is offline.

Please include in your replies your timezone in relation to GMT, and your preference for civilisation (again, first come, first served).

I am currently 9 hours ahead of GMT.
I will choose a civ after everybody else has.

sign me up too,

china
live on west coast of usa (pst) whateevertime that is, gmt-8(?)
i play early morning or evening

thanks
king stuart

Okay - You're both in. I've changed Tiny to Small as per your requests, and will change anything else if we get enough people asking.

I figure that if we start now, we should be able to do one turn EACH every day - we're all about 8 hours apart, and if we all play in the evening it should be okay. But if we start now, it will either be three civs, or we'll have to add some AI, so I guess we won't be doing that!

I'll wait until we have four players, then I'll set it up.

And can anybody recommend a good ruleset for multiplayer? I've looked at a few, but I have to say I'm not entirely in agreement with any of them :( It wold be nice to have this decided soon, so that we can start as quickly as possible...

Okay, we'll start with four unless anybody else shows up before we're ready.

Smartsquid399, you're in. But you'll need to tell me what timezone you are in, and what time of day you can play.

Also, any ideas on a ruleset? If nobody has any decent suggestions, I'll choose one and then suggest a few changes...

Hopefully we'll have this set up and running within two days.

Pacific time, 10:30-19:00, Friday-Sunday. Any AIs?

I suggest putting barbs on Restless and no higher difficulty than Monarch. Random map settings.

Right, that's four, so we'll start quite soon - I've had a request from one player to wait a few days, so that'll give us a chance to get some rules decided. I'll set up the map ASAP and let you know the details, and then suggest a ruleset.

grs: Could you please PM me your e-mail address?

Also, I have an IRC channel that we might as well use (it's actually for another group, but typically it's empty) if anybody wants to get together. The details are:

Server: irc.starchat.net
Channel: #carpathia

As requested we won't be having AI. The map is small, so there's room for two more players - if anybody else wants in, we might accept them, but starting with four suits me fine...

Thanks - I'll have a read through that now (I was glued to a thread about GOTM 36, the first GOTM I shall be playing!)

Also, I've received your PM, thanks.

Okay, I've read through that, and that seems mostly fine (and a lot simpler than some alternative ;) )

Everybody please read that - they are the rules we will be playing by.

Just to clarify, where something is listed amongst the exploits, we will not be allowing it in this game.

Also, for exploit 3.6: No players shall be allowed to give away cities for the sole purpose of returning their units to their capital.

If anybody knows of any other exploits that should be discussed, please add them below.

Combat Reports: To ensure that we are all giving the same level of detail, everybody is asked to present unit-by-unit reports of combat to the player they attacked, as given in the thread provided by grs. For every attack, please state the attacking unit, the defending unit, who won, and how many HP the attacker had after the battle (and after promotion, if it occured). If a city was involved, please make that clear. If any special events occur, such as units retreating or being promoted, please add that as well. Also, please remember to include if artillery (catapults, cannon, etc) assisted in the defence. However, for artillery attacks, there is no need to offer a blow-by-blow account - feel free to just list the number of artillery attacks made, and the results of the attacks. For example:

6 American Artillery attacked London. Barracks destroyed, one Rifleman damaged (1HP), no other effects.
American Cavalry defeated English Rifleman (in London), with 2HP remaining.
American Cavalry attacked English Pikeman (in London), but retreated (Pikeman had 3HP remaining).
3 American Artillery attacked London. Temple destroyed, no other effects.

Also, please include reports of other hostile actions, such as pillaging, and failed espionage actions IF you are told that the enemy found out about your actions.

I've just noticed that SMartsquid has only given his availability for weekends - will you be unable to play during the week? This would be a shame, as we are otherwise well-placed to manage one turn each per day...

If you can make it every day, please let us know what time. Obviously this would be ideal. If not, I guess we'll have to stick to weekends only.

At the moment, it looks the turn order will either be (times are only approximate):

Zild: 16:00-18:00 GMT (00:00-02:00 local time)
grs: 18:00-23:00 GMT (19:00-24:00 local time)
kingstuart: 02:00-05:00 GMT (18:00-21:00 local time (I think))
Smartsquid: 15:00-08:00 GMT (21:00-24:00 local time (I think))

As far as I know, this fits in with everybody (I'm having to make assumptions for Smartsquid at the moment).

If that's not practical, we'll probably have a system something like this:

Zild: (Flexible - any time 00:00-18:00 GMT)
kingstuart: 14:00-17:00 GMT (06:00-09:00 local time (I think))
grs: 18:00-23:00 GMT (19:00-24:00 local time)
Smartsquid: Anywhere from 23:00-14:00 GMT (15:00-06:00 local time (I think))

This second scheme will make use of kingstuart's early morning ability. I am pretty flexible, even if it means waking up early to take my turn. That said, 16:00-18:00 is ideal for me (if I can play at all one day, I can play at that time if no other). Smartsquid, will you be able to fit in a daily turn somewhere between those times? It would be really good if we could each play every day, as the longer the game takes to play the more chance there is that somebody will have to drop out...

What? Start now, even if Smartsquid can't play weekdays? Which way do you want it? :p

I agree weekends only is far from ideal, but I'd rather not start with three players, and I'd rather not refuse to let Smartsquid play!

I'll play the first turn and send it on to the next player within the next 24 hours - I just hope we hear from Smartsquid before then so I know what order to put the players in... Better to lose a day now then the game take twice as long...

I can play on the weekdays but only 4:30-5:00pm and later 7:30-8:30. I could only play about a turn on those days but as much as I want on the weekends (this week is an exception, I can play the whole week). I'm ready to start.

If there is still a spot left, i would like to join. I am able to play

mornings 9am, evenings 8-10pm, I am in GMT+10

This seems like fun.

Cheers, Wei.

Smartsquid: With four (or perhaps more) players, it seems unlikely that anybody will be able to play more than one turn per day anyway, so that's okay...

Wei and Barfot: You're both more than welcome to join, and I'll be setting the game up shortly. Can you please both PM me with e-mail addresses, and make sure you agree to the ruleset. Wei, do you have any preference on civ? If so, please let me know ASAP, or I'll put you on random. Barfot, if there's a certain time of day that's good for you, please let me know (and, of course, what timezone you are in, in relation to GMT).

If you can get those details to me soon, it should help the flow of the game. But some people are (understandably) getting a little impatient, so I'll have to start soon if I hear from you or not...

We're playing a Small world, so there's now no room for new players.

I'm going to use everybody's forum name as it is written for your player name, unless you ask me otherwise...

I think we have enough players. Could you set me as Greece and capitalize the S in Squid in my username (SmartSquid399). Thanks! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

my timezone is GMT +1
i normally can play from 18.00-23.00 +/- ,if nothing gets in the way. i can play every day.

i would also preferd no barbariens, but it is no big deal

this will be cool
